Hi to everyone. I’m really happy to have found a place to indulge my love of late 70s through late 80s electronics – portable or not. And I’m also really encouraged that everyone here (that I’ve seen so far) tries to encourage each other and support each other. As for boomboxes, I’ve owned a GE 3-5286A, a JVC PC-W35, and a Sharp QT-CD114. Details about how those have been a part of my life, especially the GE, on my profile page’s “information” tab. I haven’t been as attached to my walkmans as I have been to my boomboxes, but there was an exception: I had a Toshiba KT-AS1 that I absolutely loved. I found Stereo2go while looking for a Zenith R99. I want one that’s either a restoration candidate, or one that has been restored already. I’d go either way, I just want one (so this will wind up in the “Gear You Want” area soon). If anybody’s looking to sell, contact me. If what you’re asking is even half reasonable, you’ll have a sale on the spot.
Welcome washmymoose, feel free to post anything, I love seeing other equipment from this era, my office looks like something out of 78 except for my computer. Good luck on the Zenith, I've never seen one, they were probably stocked at the Zenith Stores and didn't get the attention that the Japanese Brands got. As a side note, I picked up a Zenith MC-7050 Reciever years ago, these were big but also pretty rare, the quality was pretty close to equipment from Radio Shack and they weren't too bad looking.
Welcome to S2G Toshiba KT-AS1 is a nice looking walkman I have several of them. Someday you need to service this walkman. I will share my experience on repairing this Walkman.
