I'm the one that my father used to pass on.

    AIWA HS-U07 Red Model

This is the blue model of PANASONIC RQ-S85 I bought for my first month.

The devices in the pictures are the models that we got back.

What kind of model is your favorite Walkman?

I lusted after anything AIWA made when I was a youngster. My next door, slightly older neighbor, went on to become an electrical engineer. He was pretty much a genius and he'd talk all day about how good Nakamichi Tape Decks were but also told tales about how AIWA Personal Tape Players were so much better than any of the others out there. I always love the little buttons and knobs the AIWA's had, much more grown-up looking than most of the other units available.

I'd have to start with the AIWA HS-J02, I really like having a radio with my decks, batteries used to be sooo expensive and the radio would work after the tape deck died. This unit could also record! When I was a kid, recording units were the rarest of the rare, nobody had them and I didn't own a recording unit until the early 2000's when I found an AIWA at the local thrift. Here's pocket calculator's photo and there's some info on the website that started this forum 19 years ago. Where can I find those awesome headphones?

+1 to how @Mister X feels: Aiwa and Akai were the toys I dreamed about as a teen! Now, decades later, I do not even remember why, but the names got burned in my brain:)

While I have a soft spot for Sony, what they did to AIWA was harsh and beyond belief, but that was kind of the norm in the late 80's, buy your competitor, and instead of keeping the legacy, turn them into a bargain brand. At least they changed the logo so we know when they went to crap. Marantz survived an almost similar fate but got lucky with different owners in different markets and coming back as a respectable brand.
