Hi all, I have the Yamaha MCR 100 setup with Dolby B|C NR capabilities. I am looking to record some tapes in Dolby but I don't know which blank should I buy. I have been lurking on ebay for quite sometime now but the prices feel a bit over 10 euros per tape of NOS type 2. I also read a review of RTM C60 and few other new blanks but not sure what to buy. Kindly drop your suggestions
Since you mentioned Euros, I'm assuming that you're in Europe somewhere so I don't know what the prices are over there for blank cassette tapes, but I would use or what I prefer is TDK type 2 like tdksa or MaxL type 2. And as far as recording machine, I would only use Dolby b. Not Dolby C and I don't like using metal tapes because most of my machines boomboxes if you will don't really can play back the abilities of the metal tape. So I prefer to use type 2 as they can properly. Decode those tapes. That's my opinion
Hi, Thanks for your reply. Maxell XL2 are over 15 euros per tape, so I am leaning towards SQ90 and save around 3 euros per tape if I buy 10 tapes. Also, like you I use walkman to listen to tapes mostly but switched to the yamaha deck recently.
No not really. I do have walkman's but I really use boomboxes to play my cassettes Lol I have so many I actually sleep with them
If NOS type II is not in your range, look for TDK D. Depending on the type of music you are recording on them, you may have to use Dolby of some kind. If you are not recording music with too many quiet sections, then you can get away with no Dolby. The good thing about TDK D is, pretty much all decks that can record will record on them with ease.
