kenwood seperates parts help

x9moto - 2009-07-31 17:26

hi all, i need some help.

i am repairing a kenwood A-47 separates hi fi system and the section in question is the amplifier i received it in non working condition and smoking when switched on, i have now discovered that the left channel amplifier has gone short circuit and made a bit of a mess.

i am seeking these parts but i cant find anywhere that sells them on the net (at least not unless i need 100 of them!)
so does any one know where i can get these parts, if possible in the uk from a shop but if not mail order will do.

Orange capacator 223 (number on it)
Resister (3 pin white chalky type)A6c22 0.22ohm middle pin v+ l+R output same ohms both sides
output transistor C3180N and A1263N
pre amp IC PC1225H
clear glass fuse TI.25A 250V

any help would be much apreciated expecially if you know any tricks or substitutes to get it going, also it is a PUSH-PULL amp so i believe one transistor is NPN the other is PNP but dont know which one! Smile

The capacitor is simply a 22,000pf capacitor. The A1263N, cross references to a NTE37 pnp transistor. The C3180N with the N suffix doesn't cross but a standard C3180 will cross to the NTE36 Power Amp in TO-3P packaging. I've not seen your 3 pin resistor but if it's a combo resistor package and that part is obsolete, then you'll probably have to rebuild it using discrete resistors if you can determine the value from the other side. The fuse is just a standard 1/4 amp glass fuse and seems you are going to be out of luck on that IC. Fact is, you might replace all of these and unless you know what you are doing, all of that can go poof once again. I recommend that if you replace these components, you power up the amp using a variac and slowly power it up, possibly even with a light bulb in series or better yet, with a current limiting external lab power supply. That way, if there is a short, you won't fry everything.

With all that you need, and if we are talking unobtainium parts here, you may be better off parting out this amp and buying another working replacement. Cost might not be all that different than going through the cost and hassle of rebuilding this one.

I toyally agree with Stormin Normin with the the replacement amp sugjestion, that sounds like its going to be a expensive repair..
Oh look what i just found Smile

Oh and good taste in hifi,i have the M85 pro logic model of that hifi, she`s a beauty..

here`s a couple of pics from the night when i first picked it up,was`nt set up properly..the pics arnt very good because i took them at night.

its not going to go again because i know what the fault was the guy im fixing it for had 6 speakers running on one channel and 4 on the other the one running 6 shorted the output tranys blew the resister connected to them and cracked the cap, the ic is a 12 leg with heat sink pins all in line, and there is one for each channel so it may be a pre amp.

anyway the parts are mirrored on both amps L+R so i just swapped the parts needed from the other channel and it runs fine.

also the amp is not mine its a repair for a guy at work and im charging so the cost is not to big a deal but i need to trace the ic before buying the other bits found a few but the only sell to company and in large numbers.

anyway thanks a lot for the parts found above that will be a huge help when i find the IC. Smile

Hi x9moto

I guess you may have tried probably some of the following UK suppliers, but I list them just in case:
http://cpc.farnell.com/
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/
http://www.rapidonline.com/

Have you tried Seme ?
http://www.seme.co.uk/
They don't have an on-line store as such, but over the 'phone they have been useful in the past to find manufacturer specific parts (especially Japanese) for me.
