can old pots be repaired.....from what i understand, when they become faulty, the rivets become loose from the carbon track at the ends......just wondering if they are repairable.............any help appreciated

It's expensive like heck but silver trace pens are available as are silver epoxy. For repairing a trace, the pen is probably sufficient. However, for a more lasting repair of something that is prone to move again such as a rivet loose from the carbon trace, the epoxy is probably best. A small syringe of it is like $23 from the local fry's electronics here but I'm sure it's available online.

I haven't tried it but according to the instructions, the silver trace can be soldered, if done carefully. I imagine it's possible to repair the trace, then coat with solder for extra strength.

When you disassemble the pots, just understand that you probably aren't likely gonna get multiple shots at fixing it. The metal is very fragile and the tabs are easy to snap off from metal fatigue. One repair is about all they can handle.

I've repaired these things before so I know it can be done.

thanks again norm...the problem ive got is the vu`s on my gf-777....because they run through the bank of pots including the echo and mic etc, the pots must be worn affecting the vu`s.....do you think they can be replaced with any pots that are available in todays market place or do they have to be original parts
