Hi all, don't know if anyone can help, got a 90's panasonic rx-ed90,fitted new cassette drive belts ,as the one's on there had turned to paste!,put the unit back together, then found that only deck 1 would eject, deck 2 worked perfect in every way,so took it apart, fitted other perfect working identical decks out of my ed77,reassembeled only to find deck 1 not ejecting and making a noise of coggs gratting , when any tape function was used .So then put back the origional decks ,only to find the gratting noise+deck 2 now not working and the controls behaving strangely,if at all!I've checked all the coggs & belts many times!and all seems in place and as it should
sorry for the rambling,I was up till the early hours with it and most of today, wished I hadn't messed with it now
Something is probably not in alignment.
Also, make sure the cables were installed in the correct manner. If the power to the motor was reversed and it's spinning in the opposite direction, it can certainly cause the issue you are describing.
Also, recheck the belts again. Almost sounds like the thing in going in the wrong direction.
Anyhow, whatever it is was introduced by your work and you might be duplicating the mistake over and over again, especially if your memory was wrong to begin with on how something goes together. Presume nothing and work from there. The solution is probably right in front of you. Since you have the boombox and only you can see what's going on, it's all on you brother.
Good luck.
Your right! I must be missing something, If not broken something!obviously the fact that the identical thing is happening on two different sets of decks, looks like a power supply problem
cheers for the advice.
You were absolutly right! I'd rooted the drive belt incorectly, making deck 1 turn the wrong way! it now plays & works normaly
except for any reverse function (i.e rewind or auto reverse) which work for 2-3 seconds before switching off, this happens exactly the same on decks1&2,obviously a common denominator as it's both decks.Any advice on this would be great.
Really greatfull for the help
