HOW TO CHANGE A SHARP VZ2000 TURNTABLE BELT

jasoncambs - 2009-11-19 14:42

well as i never found any instructions or pics on what to expect i thought i would take a few ,

i removed the whole turntable mech' by stripping the vz as documented in the downloadable service manual, but the turntable mech' can be dropped out of the front of a vz just as easy with care not to pull on the wires ,

i looked for a belt for quite a while and i dont think you will find a belt in most vz's but you will find a very tacky sticky black mess around the motor spindle

see picture 1

you really need to clean this well before fitting a new belt,

the motor will unplug at its terminal plug and can be removed from the metal chassis by undoing 2 screws(pic 1 has the motor removed as described),once clean fit back to the chassis,

now remove the big circuit board from the back of the turntable mech by undoing 1 screw and then unhooking from the chassis, fold this away to one side then undo the 4 screws that hold the metal spindle cross brace and lift off and remove the black turntable for cleaning , belt can be easily fitted while this is off,

see pic

now turn the assembly over and refitt the 4 screws , then the circiut board , etc etc ,

see pic

you will also see a small square section belt that drives the tone arm , this one is very easy to change as you will find ,

hope this helps anyone that wants to change a belt on a vz 2000 ,

can you add full size picture's of each side - 1 front, and 1 back, of the interior to better understand where everything is?

jasoncambs - 2009-11-20 08:04

Is this ok ?

Terrific!

Anymore pic requests while I have a few of these apart. It would make a good reference .
You can see that to remove the deck completely there are two terminal plugs to disconnect and the led display board for the turntable functions . That's it!!!! .

and where is the boring plastic that this goes into?

I was hoping for a complete set of picture's, you know like in a exploded view or
like these 4 possible picture structure below >

{ slice of bread-front, meat-innard's, cheese-miscellaneous part's, end slice of bread-rear }

got one above, but dont know where it goes or how its situated in the casing.

jasoncambs - 2009-11-20 18:56

Title is changing a belt . The turntable mech does not need dismantling any further to do this . If I dismantled the mech further and posted an exploded veiw of all components then it would not be related to the title .

There is a exploded drawing in the service manual that is available online

cassettekid - 2009-11-20 20:00

gee and where does this fit into? that's what I am trying to see ( the casing )

or is this the completed unit with everything everywhere no case .... no box .... no front ... no back ... no inerd's - just the above picture of a circuitboard mounted on a steel plate with a black thing underneath that goes where? pictures please ?

jasoncambs - 2009-11-21 05:44

a few veiws of the turntable mech as it is removed . Is this what you mean?

jasoncambs - 2009-11-26 12:11

So did the Pics help after all that cassettekid ?

andyboombox - 2009-12-07 02:44

hey jason
got a vz2000 coming this week, where seller simply states that the turntable woulnt work~ could this be the belt do you think?shes owned it from brand new but does say that she hasnt had it on for a while, but it was still working.could a belt have slipped off, and would i really have to completely strip out the whole record deck just to get to the belt, or is there an easier fix, because if i screw it up, ill never forgive myself!not when i only paid a tenner for it- its too much of a bargain to wreck!!!!!!!!plus you seem a bit of an expert on this machine!!!!!!!!

chancenellie - 2009-12-07 06:29

You can change the turntable belt in these without stripping the deck out, very easy Nod Yes

andyboombox - 2009-12-08 05:20

Yes; sorry, I didnt know that you had multiple threads on the same item and Here you had the pictures [ pic #2 in that thread - was most helpfull ] that i was looking for

chancenellie - 2009-12-08 06:42

No,its not in the manual,But if you undo the two turntable mounting bolts on the bottom of the unit (be careful as they are mounted on rubbers and springs).Undo the covers on the inside of the turntable to reveal two mounting screws, the turntable can be carefully manouvered out.Takes around 15-20 mins to change a turntable belt Wink

andyboombox - 2009-12-10 03:22

cheers, C- just posted a post over in tech section as well- pillock i am Laugh Out Loud

jasoncambs - 2009-12-20 02:32

Sorry I was not here to answer the question . I should have mentioned that a belt can change without stripping the box . Hope you got it done ok . Note that the cables will have to stay attatched this way though so you need to support the mech from pulling on the cables.

Need your guys help

Giving this a bump instead of starting a new thread.

I'm currently interested in purchasing a sharp vz 2000 or 2500. I been shopping around for a while and have always come across this problem where the item's belt is not working in the turntable.

I was wonder if you guys know of where to get replacement belts. Such as a trusted ebay store. I just worried getting sent the wrong belt. Also is it easy to find other parts as well. Do the needles in these suckers break easy? anothe rother noticable failure problems ??

Also i would like to know if people have any number of certain problems with their units and prefer one unit over the other (vz 2000, or 2500) . Are they fairly easy to do low maintance repairs such and belt switching for a guy like me that has minimal electronic experience. It seems so judging by the pics.

Sorry for all the questions, i've never seen one cause i live in the middle of no where so im trying to get as much info as possible!!

I want one of these for my vinyl collection, Im just trying to figure out if its worth it, cause i want it to play for years to come.

thanks for your help.

roddyradiohier - 2010-02-01 11:53

Hey Themobcrew,

where are you? I only know the belt sizes in mm

themobcrew - 2010-02-01 16:23

HI, Im new to the forums.

I'm in toronto canada. So i deal in metric as well as imperial since i so close to the states. I perfer dealing in metric. I was just wondering how Jasoncambs got his replacement belt and where since, I always hear that the record belt has gone in the vz 2000 and 2500. I just want to know cause im planning on getting one. Im also looking for a belt for a technics sl-23. I see some on ebay stores just wondering if they are usually legit. or if there any places cheaper.

thanks guys!

broags - 2010-02-02 14:09

ebay is your friend there, plenty of vz-2000 belts. Not sure about the others

themobcrew - 2010-02-03 12:01

ok, thanks. just wondering if people have lots of problems with their 2000/2500. I guess the best way to have parts is find a junker one around.

jasoncambs - 2010-02-11 12:44

I used a belt from another machine that uses the same size . I forget the model now but will look in my file for it and post it up .
I also have a junk box available for spares to polite members lol .

jasoncambs - 2010-02-11 12:48

eBay uk
search for

'turntable belt fits sharp'

he posts worldwide

themobcrew - 2010-02-13 07:18

Ok. Thanks for your help Jason. Feel better in getting one of these now that i have some support, and know where to find people that know how these things work.

Do any of you guys have a preferance when it come to either the Sharp vz 2000 or the vz 2500 in quality, and then repair?

jasoncambs - 2010-02-14 12:17

Preference?
I like the vz2000 best but if you have more than 1 you can't stack them . Whereas you can stand a vz2500 on top of another if you rich enough to own a few lol
