Maintenance

Since my box is almost 30yrs old, I'm thinking of doing some maintenance. Deoxit. Can anyone tell me where specifically i need to spray? Also on the M-90 does the tuning knob come off like all the other knobs? If so how?
Thanks.

The tuning knob will come off like all the others, more effort required because it's bigger, I guess. "Gentle & firm" is the way to go, M90s are pretty special in this world of boomboxes.

Deoxit contact cleaner will help any electrical switches or knobs if they are not behaving (switches not switching properly or knobs crackling when turned). Don't drown it in Deoxit, just a little squirt & then moving the switch/knob back & forth should do it.

Thanks, I tried to pull the knob off, but it was to hard. I didnt want to force it too much. the other knobs came off easy.

Here's a secret and if it works, send a box of chocolates to me:

Clean the knobs with alcohol or fantastic or 409 to degrease. Take a 6" piece of boxing tape and tape the two ends over the knobs as much as you can (wrap around, if necessary). With one hand, pinch the tape over the knobs to give it as much grip as possible and prevent slippage. With the other hand, pull smoothly and firmly on the strip of tape (don't jerk or you'll rip the tape). This has worked for almost all stubborn knobs for me. DO NOT pry with screwdriver.

Stormin are you talking about the tuning knob on an m90, or just knobs in general?
Also i tried to remove the switch ( i'm not sure what to call them ) Knobs, and they were not bugging.
Thanks for all your help

P.S. CHOCOLATES JUST IN TIME FOR VALENTINES DAY RIGHT!! LOL

Knobs, switch covers, yeah, this trick works for them all. You just got to get the hang of the technique but it does work. The reason for the tape is to provide grip that is normally hard to effect without damaging the knobs. Also, the tape allows you to pull with both hands (1 squeezing the knobs with the tape and the other pulling the tape). Just understand that I'm not talking scotch tape now -- I'm talking strong strapping tape.

I got my knob off with a plastic spatula.

Although it's useful advice, that's not a sentence i thought I'd ever type Big Grin

Thanks guys! Should I lube the stems before putting the knobs back on?

& now Daniel's talking about lubing his stem? Big Grin

Anyway, to answer your question:
So long as the shaft & the hole you are going to side it into are both clean, you shouldn't need any lube.

...damn, I'm calling the police Laugh Out Loud
