hey guys...i have a sony cfs 88 and cfs 77 and both tape decks prety much identical and are both faulty ....when you press any function.i.e. ff or play. they stay in for a second and click several times then stop ....any info would be nice...

Dave,I would check the main flat drive belt.
if it is slipping,it can fool the auto stop mechanism into thinking there is a tape playing and it is at the end so it kicks in the auto stop.
I've had my Sony CFS-77 and CFS-99 do that also.
I installed new all belts and it seems to have cleared it up.

yeah it does old up...its nearly 1 meter long (3 foot long)...beautiful V U`s....they vary in price from about £50 upwards

is the cfs88 a new score DAVE, i remember you had the 77 but don,t recall seeing the 88.
i had one and traded for the tec super j, really nice unusual box, love the vu,s and the way it all folds together real nice looker, bit disappointed with the sound on mine though mine had a dodgy deck too

hi az..got it about 3 months ago....was totally dead when i got it...but after a bit o tinkering i managaed to bring it back to life....just need to do the deck and she`ll be tip top
