M70 AutoStop Problem

dankaholic - 2010-11-07 03:38

My M70 stopped AutoStopping. I changed belts and cleaned / sandpapered all the rubber on the wheels of the tape mechanism - no changes. So where to continue?

Thanks

Autostop mechanism gummed up. You need to degrease and refresh lubrication where prescribed by manual.

Hey Normin,

thanks for the answer. I do have the Service Manual but i can't find the description in there. Where exactly is the Autostop mechanism? I have the exploded view attached maybe you can tell me where it is (part #)? Thanks in advance.

Oops. That advice was a general one. Typical autostop mechanisms can be located by visually observing the pendulum like action of a nylon lever.

In this case, I reviewed the service manual and the autostop feature is electrically actuated and not mechanical on this deck. While some Sanyos, etc. give very detailed description of how they operate, the JVC manual is not very specific except to say that it's effected by a reduced 6.5 volt signal. From what I gather from the block diagram, this would be the area to give attention to. If you are unable to make heads/tails of it, then I think it's repair might be beyond your technical expertise....

Hall effect element (normally a small 3-legged plastic piece near a rotating magnet), IC602, or the actual stop solenoid.

I think the AutoStop circuits are OK. There still is a rather quiet 'click' to be heard from the inside of the mechanism but it doesn't release the play position. Is anybody familiar with the mechanical side of the M70 AutoStop?! It's being activated but something seems not to be able to push/grab/pull something .. Thanks!!
