I need a shot inside the tape deck housing, the one I am repairing for a fellow member is a basket case and I'm trying to see how the spring attaches and the slides mesh together. Here is the areas of concern in red, this is straight from the service manual. Some jackass really screwed the deck up. Most of it works, but I'm having problems with the drive. Not sure if its visible but I figure I'd give it a shot....
Is S931 similar to S932?
is there another name for this like Toshiba and or is this for the WX-1 and the like, or what?
its the one the royal has in his avatar with the 5 color bars in the front...
This seems to be that box that was on fleapay......it WAS a complete basketcase, I've got almost 95% of it back.....just have to figure out what is missing/wrong with the eject mech.
Someone kludged it and even with the assembly diagram, I can't make the connection because the "black slider" bar is moving all around and they put some makeshift guide plate to keep in in one spot.....
ok I dont have any info on this one

ill try and get a pic for you kitt. at the moment mine is being temperamental and the door is stuck so i cant pop it open but ill work on it and let you know.
very good.....thank you.
Chris
BTW, hope to start getting the 935 going soon, still waiting on the motor from appleknocker, he's been a bit busy as of late. Hopefully up and running soon.
kool. good to hear
My S932 looks identical. I can open it up and take a picture of the tape mechanism. Mine is in decent shape but "play" does not work either. I'll try to do it today.
I did not see SINISTER's reply - if he has the exact same model that he can open than that's the best. I will hold off on opening mine up...

agreed
a away from my toshiba till the end of may . . sorry
Ok, here are the hi-res pictures of the tape mechanism from both sides with and without the flywheel. Sorry, I don't have time to zip them and smaller size may be prohibitive so there it goes...
Thanks......unfortunately it spells some serious bad news for this deck....
Lower left has some type of metal plate....what is that anyway? Melted plastic holding it down???
The spring is missing, and the post is completely severed off. I might be able to put a steel spike there and recreate the post......WTF.
The major problem is the pendulum action of the middle gear, the plastic spiders underneath are damaged in 8 different spots, its splintering in the motion path (fixed) and it "wobbles" causing it not to swing properly......
Those truely are very helpful and appleknocker will be greatful for the added help.
On the four mounting posts of the tape deck.....does your have some clear silicon on them that is hardened?
Considering how jacked up this box was, this is seems to be the last milestone.....the box is absolutely worth saving......just not sure how to handle it......I wonder the chances of a parts box anywhere......is this from the same model or similiar?
Thanks again.
Chris
Chris, I closed the box after taking pictures, so I can't readily answer your first question but I can open it up again tomorrow - it is only 7 screws
I have a second one, Japanese version - S93 that is missing a remote control. Interestingly enough the remote from my 932 does not work on S93 which looks like an identical box. I tracked it down to be something in the main board which is slightly different. I got that one so I could make one out of two but I could not, so both are still not working. If I could get one working then the second one could become a parts box.
To your last question - I don't have any hardened silicon on the 4 mounting posts on neither one of the decks.
Paul
i just noticed that the "post" above my highlighted picture is completely missing, it is affecting the way the gears moves left to right as it looks like a friction point.
Is this the same box as I'm working on or a different model from tosh?
Chris, which "post" are referring to? The pictures I posted are S932 and you are working on S931. I don't know what are the differences.
-Paul
they must have similiar decks....931 is right.
Big arrow is missing post, little arrow is break point that has created a huge crater where the middle gear floats on...making it wobble and unreliable. The missing post will cause the tape to not stay aligned and held when inserted....
very bad
I thought that was what you were referring to... Yes, that would be a problem - I can't imagin how could it get broken!
If there is a stub left, may be you can glue or solder a piece of plastic. What may work, is a cross-shaped support peice from boombox backcover or frontcover (depending on boombox).
