Is there a way to lubricate the auto reverse playback head on this model?
When the head on mine flips round it goes to about halfway then moves very slowly the rest of the way, sometimes having to be turned by hand.
This machine looks a nightmare to strip down.
i had the same trouble with mine,i lubricated the revolving head with sprayable lubricate
servisol super 200 with ptfe
Thanks!
I'll see if I can get some of that stuff and give it a go.
It happened to me too, with my Sony CFS9900.
I lubbed it, but sometimes the problem still ocurred.
I replaced the spring atached to the head (this one helps the head to finish the turning movement in each direction. I replace it with another (similar but a little strong and worked perfect).
If rotates slowly, head reach the cassette in a worng position, and the mecha get jammed.
Practice without tape, because you can damage the head or the mecha.

It is a nightmare to strip down. A good idea is a dry lubricant but the spring and alingment is the usual suspect. A lot of times the spring, as Success noted is the issue. There is also a tension screw that adjusts the rotation. This is a sensitive beast as are any logic controlled flip reverse head deck. Best bet is to find a shop that can handle it and let them do it. There is too much that can go wrong with this deck if not done exactly right. If you have tackled these before though you won't have any problems. You just have to be very, very careful.
Thanks Guys,
Oldskool I certainly won't try taking it apart then!

I had the same issue fuzzy. My "non mechanical" method to fix it was hit the "reverse" button like 100 times really fast. It resolved the problem, at least for my unit
