Prosonic boombox help.

killdamon - 2008-04-06 10:34

Hi, I am new here and this is me first post. I am just now getting into buying old school boomboxes and i bought a Prosonic PQR-9960. I was wondering if anyone has any info on these and perhaps a service manual for it. It was made by " Pro quality international ltd.". I cannot find any info anywhere on it Frown I will be modding it and changing out the little 8 Watt speakers and adding a LED VU meter and maybe a led strip light to the radio band display and maybe a single power on led and i will try to do it without making any case modifications and keep all original parts. Smile
I also bought a Panasonic Rx5150 from out of Canada . I am looking to buy a Sanyo MX650 that i remember having when it was new back in i think 1984.

Thanks . I do not have anymore prosonics. There was a guy who was listing his friends boombox collection on ebay and had 4 prosonics included. I think the auctions ended on them a couple days ago.

Thanks. Smile
What i am wondering is if the circuit board is the same one that is in the GOLDSTAR TSR-801 thats in the prosonic, and if those manuals are operator or service manuals ?
One issue i see with the prosonic is that the volume level from the tape deck is quite a bit lower that the volume from the radio, the sound quality is good and i tried several pre recorded and recorded tapes and the vol is still low, so its not the tape. Would there be an adjustment on the board somewhere to correct this ? Like a potentiometer that can be adjusted ? I dunno, perhaps its just the way this box is.

Both websites have the manuals clearly marked as "SER" - meaning service manuals. Most "clone" type boxes share the same core internal layout with the primary differences being in the "optional" parts such as amps, speakers, etc. If it were my box, I'd go ahead and get a service manual. At least I'd have a better understanding of the core electronics.
