would one of those cassette tapes with the lead on it work do you have to press the play button or record any info please thanks paul
I don't know about that (something I haven't tried), but does the unit have a selector switch (Phono/Line-in) near the phono sockets? If it has that switch, select line-in and plug in your MP3. See what it sounds like.
I know that on the back of my GF-9494, I have RCA jacks for phono, but it uses DIN jack for anything else. You'll need to get a DIN to MINI adapter like this:

There is also a special adapter for this situation, I bought this for my 9494
line to phono input
Hi James
Do these devices work well? Could be what I've been looking for!
I have one of those, and they work really good! Another option is to get one of those cassette adapters that goes into the tape deck, but then you will use more batteries running the tape mechanism.

Wow that looks cool, but don't seem to ship to NZ. Anyone know where else I could get one?
I can forward one ol' bud.
PM me if you want to do that.

for the last time...
the sharps have a line in through the din-connector.
you have to get a din-to-rca adapter, hook it up and press play without a tape in the deck...

Ok, I got the din adaptor connected to my GF-9494X and only a very, very low level comes through the speakers when it's in play mode with no cassette in the deck, it's so low theres no movement in the VU meters.
If I put it into rec/pause on the deck with a cassette in it the external audio comes through perfectly at the correct level (as shown by the VU activity) but the audio only comes through the headphones socket, the speakers are silent.
What am I doing wrong? Or what is wrong with my radio? Or is it that I have an incorrectly wired DIN for line-in play?
Just took the DIN plug apart and soldered a few different ways based on the different configurations posted on top of the Tech Talk board. None of them allowed for play to come through at a level any louder than it was previously using play without a tape in it, or otherwise.
I think I'll be giving up now until I take her apart to fix the capstan tire and make sure nothings been disconnected inside.
I have made it so.
The switch bridges the complete preamp.
Works great.

All you need is a reverse-phono-feedback
network.
Using 2 capacitors and 3 resistors
for each channel.
You can make your own.
Than it can be plugged into the phono input.
