Panasonic RX-DT680 vs. JVC M-90!

Oldskool you've asked for it, you got it!

DT-680 tuner section: very good.

M-90 tuner section: good.

DT-680 build quality: lots of goodies including soft touch double tape deck with reverse mode switch and music scan (TPS), 5 Band EQ, S-XBS level control, Bi-amped and when using the remote control you can see the volume knob move which is real cool!

M-90 build quality: 8 Band tuner, 2 motor full logic tape deck, Rec. levels, Dolby (B), Super ANRS which really enhances the sound on a tape, music scan, and loudness switch.

DT-680 volume set on: 8.

M-90 volume set on: 5.

tape used: Sony Metal Master.

Music: House Music.

Results: the DT-680 is a formidable contender it is loud. Bass was good, Highs and Mids. were decent. The M-90 again comes out as the winner it is without a doubt the best sounding. Bass was tight, Highs and Mids. excellent and for it's age she stills rocks!

Now I know that the DT-680 is a early 90's box and it has a CD player but for the size of it and for the price that they're going on ebay. I would suggest you to get one they're great and pretty much underated boxes.

I've had heard some tight bass in my day, so I'm really inquisiturient.

Interesting...were the tonal settings flat with no enhancements (ANRS, Dolby, XBS) when comparing the two? Also, how did you determine the volume setings? Was it that the 680 has to be at "8" versus "5" to acheive a similar level? Big Grin

hey oldskool -- i think (??) that these volume setting numbers really dont mean much for comparing any 2 boxes --
for instance a setting of only TWO for a c100f may be as loud as a NINE for that 680 --

buts its only the clean loudness that counts --imho --

Hey oldskool, I wish there was a way to set the tonal to flat but the DT-680 does not have EQ on & off switch. It would'nt be fair for either one. Lets say I was to set the EQ to -10 it would'nt keep up with M-90 where the M-90 has no EQ. and if by chance by lowering the bass and treble on the M-90 it still would not make a difference. My personal opinion is the M-90 is much more louder with or without EQ, ANRS etc.. I don't count out the DT-680 it's a good sounding box it does not distort at high volume and thats a good thing! Wink
