OK I know it's not a Boombox but it's vintage and it's has a cool vertical record player. Last week I picked this up and it needed a lot of work. When I first plugged it in I got power but no sound at all. After a quick cleaning I had sound from the tuner and no turntable or cassette deck. Once I got the tuner working right I moved on to the deck (which was DIRTY) Again after a good cleaning it came back to life
All of this was great but the reason I wanted this unit was for the vertical record player.
Moving on LOL After opening it up and getting pretty involved I found the original turntable belt had slipped off and was laying on top of the control boards for the turntable. I was really excited when I saw this
Should of held off on getting excited though LOL The belt was almost melting in my hand
After a quick call to my local record/music shop I located a belt and was on my way but after installing it I found that the record was spinning and that was it
No action on the needle and no sound (obviously) My next step was to figure out why the needle wasn't engaging and the record wouldn't play. I could hear a small motor (not the turntable belt motor) spinning and I located where the sound was coming from. Once I found the motor I saw that the belt was stretched and not turning the pulley mech that moved the cable and started the show.
This is where you guys might be able to help me. I couldn't locate the replacement belt locally and was wondering if there was a good source that you guys know of where I might find one ? Here is a shot of the belt
Anyway after rigging up a rubberband replacement and fixing a snagged wire I got the whole unit working.
LMK if any one can help with a replacement belt (I still have the original but it's stretched out a bit) Thanks in advance guys
Here it is next to the GF777
and an cool pic I liked LOL
The VZ-2000, VZ-2500 & VZ-3500 use the same SBM6.0 and FBS11.5 as the GF-777.
The actual turntable belt is an FMB25.0
.025 Inch / .6mm Thick
.203 Inch / 5.16mm Wide
25.0 Inch / 63.5cm Inside Circumference (total length)
Go here:
http://studiosoundelectronics.com/belts.htmand order the SBM6.0 (it's only $1.05). I use the SBM5.6 for a slightly more snug fit.
Studio Sound Electronics ships quickly too!
SWEET ! I'm all over that... Looks like I'll be ordering from them today
Thanks a million Fatdog
