look i made up a set of woofers for it as an experiment, sounds totally wicked !
it really looks cool with those chrome dust caps jumping.
scary wicked !!!
i used woofers with double stacked magnets from some book shelf speakers i had coupled with some 2 1/2 inch chrome dustcaps ,it really does thump hard.
masterblaster84 - 2008-03-23 08:42
Those speakers really do make the 100 wicked, nice job.
large 3 piece high powered boxes are great test benches for speakers ,lol
skippy i'm putting the old ones back in i just have to freshen them up after 20 some years of use ,i tell you tho this box has speakers you wouldnt believe just beyond over built.but thats a good thing .
the new woofers were only meant to be temporary but i think they sound as good as the originals ,but who know's.lol
Cool!!!!
i think i will try painting the woofers white ,a simple flat white paint should not alter the sound .
Yup,that should work and look awesome.
like the penguin said in that bat man movie ,i just need a little tape and alot of patience.lol

Nice job Floyd. I am actually in the middle of the same activity with my JVC PC-55 but that's for another post to come this evening.
I recommend Folk Art 901 Wicker White Acrylic Paint for your woofs. Bleaching works but does not give the blinding white the acrylic does. Plus the bleach can break down the paper material. See this photo of my RX-C100 and you'll se what I mean by the power of the acrylics. The paint also holds up extremely well also.
thanks oldskool ,where can i get that paint.
any hobby store
thank you ,i'm really starting to love these speakers i put in it ,i mean this box never runs out of power its just endless.

Wal-Mart. Down here $1.47 a bottle.
awesome ,theres a wal mart about 3 miles from me .
When you do the paint make sure you keep a moist brush. What this will allow is fo you to spread the paint around easier. I also took a wet (not dripping) brush and lightly blended around the speaker to make sure everything was even. The best part about this is no glue or foam is at risk of getting broken down. If you get a litle paint on your foam surounds you just hit it with a dark gray or black sharpie. And for your dust caps a moist Q-tip or paper towel will take the paint right off, no chemicals needed! If you use a blow drier you can play them alomst instantly, or air dry 1/2hr minimum.
thank you ,i can't stess enough to anyone how much these boxes are so worth getting, you will never be dissapionted with this box,
I am glad to hear another is enjoying thiers as much as I enjoy mine! BTW...I may need your help on a refoam job.
i got to refoam 2 sets of woofers once they are done i will let you know .then you can send em on over.
I used fabric spray on my M-90 speakers and it looks good. Acrylic paint is it safe for speakers?
For the speakers dust caps just use a bottle cap that fits over it, yours are pretty large so try a plastic cap from a Juice bottle
thanks ford ,i was saving those dust caps for a special occasion, lol looks like i found one.lol
Gorgeous !!!.
Three piece is lovely because customize speakers is more easy.
You can put some foam inside (perhaps it already has) to help the enclosre with sound reflections. It really improves.
Really nice.
actually i was getting ready to stuff some poly fill in the boxes to see what happens .thats a great idea and you are absolutely correct.
floyd thats a great job and i am more than sure it sounds bad with those speakers like i said before that rx-c100 is real close to the m90 in sound...
Looks fantastic, love the dustcaps!
thank you ,i do have a few more sets of those dust caps for future monsters.
i am going to give the re foaming speakers a whirl cos i would like to have a nice little sideline and get to save irreplaceable speakers at the same time ,i just have to see how it goes im currently learning as much as i can about suppliers and available parts i think refoaming passive radiators is also an option.

Those woofers look killer bro.
Great info on this thread!!!
Love all the Ideas , especially the white acrylic.
My question is Where ever did you get those Juicy dust caps??? Ive been looking all over the net but cant find any chrome ones.
Hook me up with the info bro!!!
i bought some speakers that had the dust caps on them ,i didnt need any of the speakers so i just bought them for the dust caps alone.i have very few of these i have i think 5 pairs total, i just havent removed them from all the speakers yet.

Perfectly safe. The only problem, as with any speaker, would be thickness if a paper cone is the concern. Although I do agree with fatdog on bleaching working, the chemical makeup of the bleach can make the paper brittle. (An example of this is a pair of socks that have been pure bleached. You ever notice how they seem to fall apart or sound like their ripping when you strecth them? With paper cones brittleness is accelerated because the chemicals in the pulp that bond it when pressed are broken down making the cone weaker.) The acrylic only goes across the surface (It has a low viscosity.)and is water soluble so it can be thinned as neccesary and works well on thin paper. Like fabric spray, it also comes in many colors. My wife is a craft nut somewhat and uses this all the time. That's how I discovered it.

Generally, I've found that adding stuffing to a sealed speaker box will make the speaker sound "cleaner"; midrange is less harsh and bass is tighter. This is due to absorption of the back wave of the woofer which would otherwise make the speaker panels vibrate. In some cases, the low bass response may improve as the stuffing somewhat increases the size of the box that the woofer "sees". Its an easy mod to do and can be undone if you don't like the results.
asking you guys if you can predict if/how the foam will work in the marantz 7000 speakers --?
they have their amps built into then -- thanks

In a case like this I would not recommend it as it will restrict airflow and I'm not sure how warm the amps get, but the heat from the amps could cause problems.
ok - thanks oldskool -- sounds way too risky --
but dont tell this to skippy -- let him experiment FIRST
i dont know how the amps are located on that box but you could just put some on the rear case of the cabinet or the front case if the amp is mounted on the back ,any that you add will smoothen the sound out in some degree cos the empty hollow cabinet sound is reduced,
one more inquiry
why were all these potentially better speaker made without OEM poly fill ?

Simply: to cut the cost of manufacturing. The manufacturer is most likely to cut corners where they are not as noticeable and speaker stuffing is not easy to hype in an ad.
Yah right!!???
