Well,I got everything working on my new CS880. So now I'm starting to disassemble it Here is the front housing before I clean it up and get it ready to paint. My woofers are on their way to JvcFloyd's house to get a major checkover and refoam. One thing I never realized was that the upper half of the front housing is made from aluminum.
I'll take more pictures during this resto job,so you all can see what it looks like. [URL=[URL=http://imageshack.us]
thanks for that shot, skippy -

Hers is a picture of one of the woofers from the cs880 that I just sent off to JvcFloyd to be refoamed.

Not bad at low volume, but like dogdoo at louder volumes. It is really quite loud though,I was surprised. I'l bet it will be a totally different animal with the new foams.

Here is a pic of the bass radiator, the foam surround looks great. The flat aluminum cone just needs a wipe down. (front view) [URL=[URL=http://imageshack.us]

congrats skippy ! getting that front grill off is fun eh ! ! !
i bet your bottom dollar if that passive has not already been re foamed , it will need to be after a few cranks of the volume !
looking good ! ! !
Yes the grill was a chore to remove, thats for sure. Those little aluminum panels that hide the screws sucked to remove too. I hope the radiator is ok. The foam looks and feels like new,so maybe it has been refoamed, If it blows out,I'll just yank it out and refoam it. Thanks Royal!
Saw one of these in a boot sale years ago i kick myself each time i see one of these as i didnt buy it now wish i did.
Time spent is well rewarded look forward to some more pics when finished.
new foams will wake er up.that foam rot really sucks!
Yes it sucks almost as bad as the Aiwa licorice belt syndrome, but the speaker rot is not as messy.
Here is a closeup pic of the rebuilt cassette drive assembly. I left the buttons off, until reassembly so they won't get broken or lost.

Same deck as the CS-660.
Yup,pretty much the same deck Fuzzy.
although the CS770 + CS880 have the same deck and lower wow and flutter rating than the CS660,for some reason. Even though the decks all look the same.
Here is the back panel of the CS880 after all electronics have been removed. [URL=[URL=http://imageshack.us]
The repaired screw through stud. It was repaired with epoxy and I smeared black silicone sealant around the repair to make sure the cabinet would be sealed as it should be. it is a very sturdy repair and should hold up well. It looks kinda bad,but it was broken pretty bad. Nobody is going to see it anyway once it is put back together and booming.

i can tell that box is no toy ,judging by the woofers alone ,plus that rigid back panel.hell now i want one.lol

Nice work Skippy, I can't wait to see it up and running.
Floyd I want one too but I think the line might be longer than available 880's.
Thanks Guys! I can't wait to get it up and running either. I just need to take my time and not rush through it.
well thats good to read that your not in a rush, skippy --
because i just sent floyd 30 pairs of speakers to re-foam --
BEFORE YOURS --
I just called your bluff! You could'nt send them,I never sent you the U.E. paper bag shipping container so HA,jokes on you!!!!!!!!
Ira shipping anything is a joke!
Nice progress on the work Skip! Keep it up!
Thanks Fred!!!
skippy -- mine needs 1/2 a toothpick wedged in the power button to keep it turned on --
so just let me know if you need the remaining half of the pick
Thanks man, just bag it up and send it. I'll PayPal you the $$$$.
well- heres the deal ::
the 1/2 pick is 'on the house'--
but for you guys that still think bags grow on trees.........
Alright the, just send it in a plastic bag if it's that big of a deal!!! Save a tree you know!
do wish the 880 had an analogue tuner ?
Really? ,I think its pretty cool. Of course I say that now because mine works. If I was in your shoes,I would be wishing for an analog tuner too.
but - even if/when mine works -- i think that diddling around with an old dial tuner is more fun than just digital buttons--imho
Yes,thats true Ira.
Well,I painted the two body halves and the speaker grill today. I think they turned out pretty darn good for an total painting idiot and I hate painting
. The speaker grill was a dark grey with very light metallic specs, I always thought that the grill was black.
The body halves were like aluminum in color. I'm going to start reassembling tomorrow. Jvc Floyd has my woofers all refoamed and he is sending them to me now. [URL=[URL=http://imageshack.us]
The back panel.

Nice, nice and very nice. Hand claps all around. Can't wait for the big finish!

Here is a few pics the JvcFloyd sent me of my refoamed woofers for the CS880. [URL=[URL=http://imageshack.us]
From the back side, check the size of the magnet on the suckers!!!!

All ready to rock!!

great work skippy i guess youre feelin the heat cos it's chrunch time since the woofers are en route to you.like hannibal smith from the a-team said ,don't you just love it when a plan comes together ,smokin his cigar.
Thanks Oldschool69 and Floyd! Yup,I've got a reason to get going on it going now.....
it would be cool to have a show like monster garage ,but instead call it monster box ,with the super fast super quality boombox make overs.the opening would be a monster box with two tesla coil towers feeding electricity directly into the antennas.
