Hi, I just looked at
this thread again as I'm planning to bleach my Sharp GF-9000's woofers white again. If you study the pic below where Fatdog's bleached half of the cone, the bit that's done looks awfully thin and wafer-like. I don't want the GF-9000's woofers to turn out like that and possibly rip, stretch or go floppy and lose their sound!
Before I tackle the project, can someone please reassure me that it will be okay? Also, the woofers in my GF-9000 are cream. Are they meant to be white?

ive done this many times, once its completly dry they go white, you may need to do it more than once, but wait until completly dry, i left mine over night before going over again, looking good though,
Does the paper have the same feel and thickness afterwards?

it a little different, must be careful not to over do it, only apply one coating then let it dry
If I try it, I want it to feel the same. It looks like I'm just going to use a little sprinkle!
Has it changed the sound when you've done it?
i think the real original GF9000 speakers wasnt never white
I have 2 pairs GF9000 speakers(both cream)

Thanks for that AK, mine only have a few dark flecks on them, which is why I thought of bleaching. You can't see the flecks when the grilles are covering the woofers though. I think I'll take the safe option and leave them alone.

no didnot effect the sound
One would think that bleach would somewhat deteriorate the paper. If you get straight bleach on a shirt or a clothing item, even if washed immediately, will leave a weak spot. This sounds like a great idea but i'm worried about long term effects on the speaker paper.
Do you want a pair GF9000-Speakers?
i have one for sell

No, it's okay but thanks for the offer. The woofers in mine are okay actually, just cream instead of white. If they're meant to be cream, there's no point bleaching them or replacing them. I wouldn't mind trying out some black woofers though, people who have 9000s with black woofers don't tend to complain about the sound quality. I'm intrigued.
I've always painted mine using either a spray on acrylic or fabric paint. It really (IMHO) works out better than bleaching and make the woofs a brilliant white. Se my Fishers below. I took out the original black speakers and installed some original Fisher white speakers. They weren't perfect. (Thrifty finds.) They were dirty and stained. But the end result is fantastic!
I also did Fatdog's GF-777 speakers, but using a satin black finish to give them a rich, deep appearance tha reallyset off the Run-DMC clings he had on his box.
Those Fishers look amazing
Hey Retro Addict - I have black (well dark grey now) speakers from a GF535 if you want them for your test.
I did a bit of a 'how to' for repainting speakers here:

Rock On.
