It's not too harsh but it may leave a residue as it is also a lubrication. Try acetone 1st w/ a stiff swab. If it's corroded beyond that, I have used Novus #2 to polish heads as it does have mild abrasives. Try not to use it on the center of the head tho. Stick w/ acetone there.

I use pure acetone (found at hardware store). Im not sure if nail polish remover has other additives. I think it must because it smells different. And by the way, keep the acetone OFF of plastic.
