I have a box that has an EQ that is not working. Moving the sliders does nothing. Not even a tiny bit of static. No change in the sound. How can an EQ, I assume it is directly in the signal path, be non functional, but the rest of the box works perfectly?
it's possible if the pre amp signal passes through the eq section and the signal remains the same due to a non functioning eq.
I am hoping I can open it up and there will be a loose wire and a note that says "plug this in here"
Of course I hope for that everytime I pop the hood on my car too...
If you can get it open try to post a picture of it.
In general, with an EQ, you take the signal from the main path, put it through a filter at the appropriate center frequency, and that goes to the center tap of a potentiometer. One end of the pot will go back to the main signal path further down the line and add to it; the other will go back upstream to an inverting input and subtract from it. Take several of these filters+pots and put them in parallel. Those EQ ICs, as I understand them, work somewhat differently but similar. If the EQ doesn't work--especially if it's both channels--maybe a loss of power to the filters part might be causing it. Nothing would be coming out of either end of the pots so nothing is being added to or subtracted from the main signal path. Just one idea.
Is it a JVC PC150 or PC200?
Hey Skippy, how did you guess? It is a JVC PC-150. I am hoping that you guessing is a good thing...
No Spud, I was just guessing. I had a PC150 that had the same problem. It seems to be very common in the PC150 and PC200.......

i`ve got a sharp GF9500 that i got off fuzzyduck, thats got the same problem..i`m not that good at detailed issues like that,so i just kept it as it is..it does`nt bother me that much..although it would be nice if it worked..
LOL...I also have a PC150 and a PC200 BOTH with non-functioning EQs.I think you are in the minority if you have one that works.I remember someone on this forum saying they eventually got theirs working with repeated cleaning of the sliders. They were wanting to try to get more bass out of it as I remember.Even with working sliders they couldn't get enough bass however. These models could use better woofers for a balanced sound.IMO,They are nice for rock but less so for dance and beats.I think they're really beautiful boxes, especially in black.
I guess I had better check out my PC-200s when I get home...
