calling clairtone surgeons - trash can rescue

clashcity.hc - 2009-04-30 15:50

Found this in the garbage a few weeks ago. Since then I've been perusing Stereo to Go. Great website. Your enthusiasm is infectious. The first problem is that the ac power supply doesn't work. It seems the previous owner has swapped out the original what I assume is a power transformer and pcb. If it can be replaced, please tell me how.

As a temporary fix, I spliced the battery power to the hot and negative leads. Everything works fine except for the bottom tape deck which there is no response from.

I'm thinking this green and yellow wire are for the power button which is disabled at the moment. Question. If I splice these into the hot lead will it allow me to use the power switch with no ill effects.

Lastly, this capacitor right of center is melted. It is on the pc board behind the bottom tape deck when you first open 'er up. Does anybody have the values for this for replacement...

I would very much like to get this box running 100 percent again .Any help and advice is really appreciated.

Clash, you found that in the trash?? Eek Wow! Perfect timing on your part I'd say. You might want to get with member Kittmaster regarding your questions. If you can't get the bottom cassette door to open, you will definitely need AC power to do so. Otherwise, you might damage the door trying to open it.

Good luck and congratulations!

Oh, yeah, welcome aboard. Cool

Dude where do you live ??
I need to visit and go trash hunting Eek
Your lower deck issues can be due to that crispy resistor.
I wish I had a service manual for you as the schematic would list the cap value . I haven't found one to date. I have some power supply parts but I dont think they will be of any help as the board is busted.
It runs on 15 volts dc if you can find an external transformer that you can use for use inside. to plug it in.
Welcome aboard
I hope you get your new treasure up and running.

First off, you need to get the original power supply from someone here. There are plenty of junker C100F's around and someone I'm sure will be able to give you a good deal for a proper replacement. Throw that power supply junk out.

The two wire connector is for the DIAL LIGHT which is only powered when the unit is plugged into an outlet. It is off when running on batteries, hence why you see no "problems" powering it direct.

As far as the last image, I assume that is what you mean by "melted capacitor"?.....if so, that looks like it could be a resistor or a diode.....tell me its refdes (reference designator)....R1, D4....whatever.....and I can tell you want you need to get to replace it.

Cheers for your quick reply Kittmaster. I've been very busy with non-ghettoblaster related activities and have just opened 'er up. The designation is R343.

kittmaster - 2009-05-09 18:22

Hmm, my parts list isn't showing the value of the resistor. I will have another conion open soon and can tell you what value to replace it with.
