Today i decided to part out the dead PHILIPS D8118.

Taking out 7 screws at the back and the box opens:



Normally it´s very difficoult to bring out the parts without clipping cables or destruction anything



Nothing glued! Everything clipped or screwed!



Only bad is the scale, made of normal paper!
When it comes wet inside, you can imagine how it looks like..



Also the speakers only clipped with metal parts. So the whole life inside came out in one part.



Very clean now inside.



Also all labels and parts only clipped on the body!

Sure some parts will be used on other boxes, to save their live.

And what will we learn of this?
PHILIPS is just great.
This box was made with much brain and very service friendly.
Very easy to change parts.
Should rule all other producers!

But the golden years of PHILIPS are over now...

Nationa Panasonic work in the same way to save time in the manual assembly proceses (the MOST expensive). As a result, parting it's very easy too. I'm not parting any of my Panasonics to prove that ... but believe me ... is just great too .

Aha.
Shame the part I wanted was damaged in yours too, namely the 4 sliders for left & right volume, Spatial & tone.
This was one area where the Philips boomboxes of this era weren't so good. If you put the boombox back together without lining these up perfectly, it's very easy to snap the slider off, just as what has happened to two of the sliders on yours:

To sad the part you wanted is damaged.
I think this was the reason why the box landed in the dump. The stereoslider is´t so a problem, but when the volume is damaged > scrap.

But a few parts will survive.
I need them.
For this nice one i found last week at flea.
The tape does´nt work.
So i´m glad to have spare parts.

So, the work is done!
One hour ago i decided to repair the tapedeck of it. So i must correct the text above.
If you don´t really care about damage (parting out) it looks very easy. But now my hands begin to bleed.
How to open the box without damage of sliders and something else...
And isolator was right, the hardest job are the 4 sliders at top - when you go the wrong way!!
Because you have´nt to pull the slidercaps out!!
Ok, i will show what i mean when putting together!

Here the opened box.
Luck: only the belt was broken:



I took it from the partspender.
3 screws and in 5 minutes it was canged.

Ok, let´s put it together.
The sliders at the side also must´nt be taken off, becaus the caps are open to the side the platine goes out.

Then the 4 sliders at top.
Between the caps and the regulators are adaptors which keep them together.



The adapters don´t stay at the regulators, they would fell of when mounting.
So you have to clip the adaptors and the caps together and move everything to the left side.
Then when putting together the 2 slidercaps in front to the right, come closer with the front.
When the first 2 regulators have passed, return to the left. Then when everything ist ok, all 4 caps and regulators will come together without a problem.

So if you go the wrong way, it is nearly impossible to don´t damage anything...

Now the box is back to live and works great!

yeah, that's it, exactly. not easy to explain, is it?

Thise D8118s jut keep falling in your lap, eh?

My favourite is it's sister model (one below it in the 1984 range), the D8132. It's similar inside, but with no piezo tweeters & no headphone socket.
