so i just gotta say im very unimpressed
there seems to be very lil to no difference in volume with the sub. is it suppose to be like that?
no --its a remarkable difference --
thats what makes it famous .
so --find out whats not right with yours
so it should be nite and day right.
say -- as you turn the variable control up -
about 50 % more power --
which is almost night and day --
also --send a PM to gordie and to vladi --
they both like theirs ALOT
Yah Sin, there is nothing wrong with your BigBen
It's just "operator error"....... LOLOLOL!!!
thats enough from the peanut gallery, this is big boy talk here. go play with your Lincoln logs
The difference should be HUGE. The amount of highs in the other speakers should be balanced completely by the superwoofer by adjusting it's separate volume control
With the sub on 75% the sound should be very bassy. I mean VERY. As in I've been listening to mine pretty much exclusively for the last couple of weeks and switched back to my M70 last night to do some recording and the difference was huge, the M70 is missing a lot of the the low end the BigBen outputs, especially at lower volumes. This is very pronounced, and we all know how good the bass response is in the M70. It should, as Hifi Tom says sound like 'hifi bass' not portable bass.
Sounds like somethings amiss dude. She should blow you away with clarity and depth of sound.. only one department she's not big in and thats volume. Hope you can get her sorted Sin rocker.
Rock On.
Ya, My BigBen is almost as good as M90 - and I don't even turn the bass all the way up!
that's what i thought. is there a separate amp, maybe that blew out?
masterblaster84 - 2009-03-18 19:24
I agree with the rest, the bass should be very noticeable across the 0 to 10 range on the dial. My Big Ben is very noticeable when I crank up the SuperWoofer but not overwhelming until I start to turn the volume up, on low volume the bass is there but more mild.

SIN, there is a HUGE difference with the sub...something for sure is wrong with yours...crack it open, and fix it and report back to us
-gsbadbmr
Yep, there is a separate amp for the sub and it's a TA7205AP. The non-subwoof outputs are LA4440's. If you're not hearing the bass, it ain't working cause there's no way you would miss it.

One assumes this is easy to check: crank the bass a bit & watch that big woofer.
I've never seen one But I'd guess that at higher volumes it should move a fair bit. Even if it doesn't move much to look at, you can check whether the big woofer is working at lower volumes by lightly touching it to feel the cone vibrating.
No need to... Again, if it's working, the results are unmistakeable.

you will notice the bass sin really
with the sub on i had one here that box can pump,, if you are not hearing anything or maybe a bit too low i would think that you may have several problems bad amp chip, a bad volume pod, or a bad connection somewhere that could cause it to not work correctly
..
no matter what is wrong --
fixing this model is always impossible.
What!?! Why do you say that? It's a complicated machine and the service manual is pretty thick, I'll grant you that. But NOTHING is impossible.
Oh yeah, and if you find that it's impossible to fix, I'll be glad to take it off your hands...

no worries norm. tha banjo man is just trying to get me to sell to him
its back @ the shop getting looked @ now so should have some news shortly
I agree with all, its a great sounding, bassy machine!
stormin norman --
sinister is correct - i was goofing about the 'impossible' comment
in fact - if its any of the 3 problems that ramon suggested --
then he will hear and FEEL the bass -- SOON !!!

other than the kaboom --i know of no other boxes with a variable sub --
or ---does anybody know of any others ??
How silly of me not to recognize facetiousness and ribbing when I see it. Guess I haven't been hanging around here enough....
other than the kaboom --i know of no other boxes with a variable sub --
or ---does anybody know of any others ?? The Sharp GFs? 777/919/909?
adam --i dont think that the dials under the grills really are sub-controls ??
they seem ???? to effect everything EXCEPT the bass sound ---
mine is an old gf1000 --perhaps its not operating correctly --
you might be right ??
the gf777 does have subwoofer level controls and they do boost the bass quite a bit ,and they dont affect any other speakers but the middle woofers only.
no ira yours is ok its that you do not tinker with it very much or lets say nada
Ira, I was always surprised you didn't like the GF-777, but this explains
You should PRONTO get one of those
can we say
OPERATOR ERROR

Ya, error big time - Ira sold his GF-777 - really cheap. He thought it didn't have enough bass
WRONG !!!!
i NEVER sell anything for CHEAP
in the meantime -- this is SO off-topic.
------------------------------
SIN -- did you get your big ben sub fixed yet ??
how .... .. ..... ?
its in the shop right now getting looked @
well - while you are awaiting the repair --
and jonesing for some some subs
just flip on your kaboom-
which is 3 times better than the big ben anyway !!
Ira, even if you build a whole wall of kabooms - they all won't match ONE BigBen operating at half volume - I think you're just jealous
i think you dont even have a kaboom, vladi
ok kids..... to me its apples and oranges the kaboom is a different box, but is still great. as for the bigben we'll just wait........
Actually - I don't have a kaboom - even though I've always liked them.. When I move to a bigger house - I'll expand my collection some more!
vladi !!!!
wake up --
this is the NINETYS -- get hip -
you NEED a kaboom
any member without a kaboom is both
under-privaledged and under-powered
I think Panasonic Cobra would be my next egg purchase - but only after I find me a Sharp 939
does anyone know what ohm the sub is. the rest of them are 4 so the sub should be 4 right.
imma believer!!!!
masterblaster84 - 2009-04-15 18:41
Did you get it rumbling Sin?
yeah man. she's boomin right now. she was a train wreck!!!!!
masterblaster84 - 2009-04-15 20:47
Very cool Sinister.
The Big Ben is one box I'm not getting rid of, they look to cool and sound great. Sounds like your warming up to it now.
hey sin -- you must have suspected that a dozen fine s2g posters could not ALL be wrong at the same time on this same thread !!
glad you stayed with it
well i knew you were wrong.........
