I dont come on the site much anymore, but when I do, its for a reason Last week I ordered a Lasonic i931 off ebay, brand new in box unopened and all. I received it yesterday and couldnt be more happy.. except..

I have come to find that my Lasonic is different. All boxes, instructions, etc are legit and the back of the box is stamped with the usual Lasonic info to the right of the battery cover.

The thing is.. instead of the matte, or flat, black finish, my whole entire box is shiny black. Another weird thing, the battery cover.. is the only thing matte/flat black.

ALL pictures I have seen of the i931 are of a matte/flat black box and I have yet to find one of a shiny finish.

If anyone knows why my box is a weirdo, please inform me. If everyone is stumped, I will be giving Lasonic a call to ask them.

could be a rare variant...they've been making them in white and different designs and plans to do them in other different colors as well...

Could be. Ive seen them in white and 2 other variations already(the bling bling one & the famous stars & straps version) but still havent come across a picture of a shiny black finish.

Wow! You'd have to go all the way back to the original versions of the TRC-931 (1st and 2nd editions) to see a shiny black 931 'cause even the rounded TRC-931 had a matte finish.

Personally, I like it! Until proven that yours ain't a fluke, if I were you, I'd do whatever I could to make sure that box remains in great shape... You never know, you may have the only shiny i931.

If it is, let me know if you wanna sell it!

too, But i would go further and find out more from lasonic, maybe its like getting a golden ticket (willy wonka and chocolate factory)

I found another lasonic on ebay, sure looks to have a shiny black finish to me. I did ask the guy so i am waiting for response

My guess is that the mold for white is gloss. If white had that rough matte texture it would pick up dirt / fingerprints just from handling (he says while he caresses his matte black i931). Good for you, it's EXOTIC!

Well It is the the gloss black finish

with the glossy look the i 931 aint half bad lookin ,i just wish they would do something about the handle the chrome ends look much better .

I'm thinkin' about finding a busted TRC-931 (round version) to see if the handle would fit on the i931.

Not sure but it looks like it could.

EDIT: Damn, I keep forgetting that I gave my i931 to my nephew a few weeks ago. I have to buy another one.

right on mono i think the handle work work no problem and look alot better .

As long as we're on the subject, what would be the going price for a NOS / NIB TRC 931? If I were just going to pick up one I'd just get it, but I may buy several and don't want to compound a silly offer I would make.

coincidentally i was thinking the same exact same thing the other day of swapping the handle from that model onto mine if ever find one...chrome ones seem to be much stronger perhaps...and i wonder if it would hold the same

Shame they went to single antenna though

I dont think that handle would work. The new I931 handle is thinner where it attaches to bbx
