ok i cant remember what kind of grease to get for cassette door hinges. help me..........

Petroleum based white lithium grease. You can find it a most auto parts stores.

It has a low low low viscosity so it's great for soft eject mechanisms. And it won't harm plastic as it's made to be used on metal and plastic.

it depends on the plastiks and the lubrications type.

I use your basic drug store Petroleum Jelly.
Easy to find and cheap.
Safe on plsstic, non-toxic.
Good for basic plastic stuff.
It does become more liquid at warmer temperatures
so dont use it for other greasing things.

I also use it on battery covers
on the clips or anything where plastic rubs together.

vasoline is your harmless and most available grease -- and it works well !!

another grease that is pretty good is sold by NAPA it is called sylglide, it is 100% silicone

Great choice as well. Vaseline can eventually weaken plastic as it does not have lithium or other components to neutralize the chemicals in the petroleum base.

The older plastics on boomboxes are not the same as those used on Vaseline jars. (Vaseline jars use a much softer plastic. What's used in audio equipment is usually a harder type.) Over time the plastics in these radios become more brittle and actually are more pourous. This makes them more sensitve to materials which can accelerate the breakdown of he plastics. This is also why we all have to be VERY, VERY, careful when removing plastic parts like eject mechanisms, screw bases, gears, etc.
