Hi everyone-I just received my M70C from Canada.
The shipper didn't pack it really well so it got jogged around in transport.
It's all good now-the speaker grills were slightly bent in-fixed them no prob.
The tuner dial though moves from the right 108 down when you spin the tuner but will not go right from 87 up(the stations will though).
Now if you tilt the box slightly to the right it will go up from left to right-87 up to 108.(FM dial)
Also when its at about let's say 96.3 it's picking up at 98.3.
How can I fix this-It's in there aways(I had the back off) but I know if it's adjusted and tightened up somehow it will all be good-hopefully.
Has anyone done anything like this on a M70?
I'd really appreciate any help on this as if it's too hard I might have one of you guys help me fix this if I pay you.
Otherwise overall condition and tape deck and sound-Incredible!!
I love this one-47 watts!
By the way I have 2 of the 3 brothers.
I have Bill the youngest brother (M70JW)
I have Peter the Middle brother (M70C)
I want Brutus The (M90)!!
Have a super New Year week-Ghettoboom777.
ghettoboom some times the string may slip as you turn make sure the shaft is not wiggling and that the string is nice and tight that causes a lot of trouble even having the dial marker out of place sometimes...

Hi ramon-Thanks for that-I forgot to say that if you tilt the box to the left it will slide all the way down before the 87 mark.
I'm assuming the string is out of line or is off somehow.
I think that it will be some doing to get at this.
I'll look again tomorrow at the back but it might involve more than I might be willing to do by myself(lots of stuff to take out to get at).
Thanks again-

Before you put the black frame back into the body of the M-70, the tuner needle
and tuner needle holder should be positioned all the way to the right of the dial so you can line the needle up with the needle holder before re assembly.
I have made this mistake a few times and have had to completely dis assemble to correct the problem.
hope this helps.

Hi Transamguy1977-I'd pay you if you want to fix it?
This might be more than I'm willing to do-it's practically mint and I want to keep it that way.
This is the only thing wrong with it.
It wouldn't be for a month or 2.I'm still fixing up my GF-9595H.
Have you done this? With success?
Let me know or PM me-Thanks-GB.

If this is what I'm thinking that box must have got knocked around pretty good In shipping.
I assumed you had it completely apart to fix the grilles.
Now let me get this straight , when you tilt the box to the left or right the needle just free slides from left to right?
But will eventually move when you use the tuning knob on the side?
If this is the case then the problem is not the string.
The string has a seat connected to it which the needle locks into when the main chassis is screwed to the front of the radio .the needle remains in a slotted groove in the back of the dial lens in which it will slide in.
If the needle becomes misalingned with the seat on the string it will free float in that groove.
Therefore the needle will only move when the seat meets up with the needle .
It's really harder to explain than it is to fix.
If it's what I think , I can have it fixed in 15 to 20 minutes.
Will be happy to fix it for free or send you the service manual and talk you through it over the phone.

Hi Transamguy1977-I actually fixed the grills the old-fashioned way-The paper clip carefully through the holes and pull with needle node pliers-fixed-no prob!
No-I haven't had this thing aprt all the way-I'm still so into the 9595 that I just can't start this to.
I'm afraid to because it's a M70C & it's so clean.
Now:
The needle will float down before 87 if you tilt it left,if you tilt it right it goes to where it was last tuned into.
It will turn left to 87 from 108.
It won't however turn from 87 up to 108 unless you tilt it a little to the right.
It's also off by about 2 mehahertz-like it's on 96 and it's playing a 98.3 station.
I'd love to fix this but I might have you fix it.
I'll p.m. you about this and if I'm, in your area or we can figure something out within a month or so.
I'm diligently going to work on thisd GF-9595 power supply problem myself first!
Thanks alot for your help-GB.
Unlike most tuners which use a needle pinched onto a dial string, the JVC M70 has a sliding plastic locator attached to the dial string, but the needle itself free sides on a rail mounted onto the outer case shell. It's a little tricky but on assembly, the needle has a peg that fits into the locator. Therefore, the plastic locator slides and "pushes" the needle around. If the needle got dislocated and knocked off the plastic locator, then what happens is that the locator itself moves in accordance with the tuner position but the needle gets pushed in one direction (depending upon which side of the locator the needle dislocated to). It is not difficult to do but you need to be careful when you disassemble the case because there are screws in obscure locations that are difficult to see. Without a service manual, you may never find those screws!
I've done this several times and rebuilt several of these radios. They are great but the sliding controls have a tendency to wear out. If you haven't already fixed this, PM me and I'll see what I can do to "talk" you through this.
