External EQ 2 Improve BBX Sound?

Question:

I just bought a Marantz from RBJ, and thought Id look for a 'gold series' Marantz CD player for the Line In...

Found a few, but I also found an EQ.

Would this improve the sound in anyway of a boombox?

It would certainly give added adjustability, but would that translate through the box itself???

I did this with my Ipod Ikicker docking station's back panel line-in with stunningly good results. You may have read that post.I see no reason why it would not do the same for a boombox.Actually I've been meaning to try this with my Prosonic 9962.Just as with my IKicker, its bass and treble controls cannot bring the midrange forward for that bright in your face sound I so love.If you try this,I'd suggest centering the tone pots on your boomer.I picked up an Azden 10 band equalizer from Goodwill for $8.00.My 7 band Kenwood just didn't work as well. Some of the best money I've ever spent.

Thanks Jovie!

I need to see that thread!

I will especially like to hear about your results with the Prosonic PQR-9962 as Ive had many of those myself. A good sounding box stock... so Im very interested to see what you say!

I'll take the 9962 to work with me next time to test as my Azden is there.I've never really liked the sound of my 9962 personally. It has laid back mids and rolled off highs despite being a large 2 way box with great bass. For tonal balance it is somewhat similar to the Ikicker. If the difference is as major as with the docking station ( Eek transforming Eek )I'm going to be very happy! As I said there seems to me to be no reason why it shouldn't work.

Ive always had my 9962's restored by a shop who cleans everything down to the last nut and bolt.

I wonder if that might have improved the sound of mine?

Anyway, yeah; really looking forward to your test results!
