PC-100 Portable Deck problem

success - 2008-11-18 02:40

Hi people,

I've bougth a Portable Component PC-100. The one with detachable deck. Very nice !!!

The deck (of course) wasn't working.
The belt was cut, so I put a new one.
But when I run it a lot of fluter (speed changing) is heard. Sounds nasty.
Firstly I tougth it could be the motor, but speed chnages are very fast. Sound like a capstan issue (bacuase the frequency of the speed fluter)
But seing the capstan is OK, and look aligned.
Also I cleaned all the places were belt runs, pinch and soo on
Also noticed that after some time of playing and more when the music scan was used, the belt seemed to get enlarged, since I can stop the capstan without stoping the motor and this is done with a little force.
I bit strange. I'll buy a new belt, but I was wondering if this deck has a well known issue that I most loook into ....
Anyway, in my opinion, the PC100 is the best unit I've heard by it's size. Really bits, other boxes I have with bigger speaker.
And tape deck is quite advanced, with surface mount tecnology. I'was surprised to see this in a vintage equipement.

hi i had something like that on a box i pulled the motor out and powered it with a small supply and in fact it was the motor pulsating you could here it changed the motor all well..i would think that if the capstan where bent which could happen i would have pulled it out to make sure it fine and the motor the same way just to rule out

Thanks Ramon .. how are you ?

The problem with this is the motor is only isn't standard. The speed control is in a micro-board build around some IC, and the motor doesn't have elctronics. Here the fresh mabuchis won't help us ...
Is a micromotor (3V), because the PC-100 detachable deck is a walkman (80's size Big Grin)

I hope it won't be the motor Mad.

Now runs good (not perfect) but at some moments start flutering a lot. Really nasty Mad.
