Question about Speaker Impedance

alexis - 2008-11-12 07:19

Hi All,

Can I use a speaker with 6-Ohm impedance to replace the same size and watt, 4-Ohm speaker?

You can, the major effect is you'll lose some output power. But overall that shouldn't be all that much. Your losing about 36% power since impedance is not a linear function.

If the speaker is really efficient, it may overcome some of the power loss.....but it will not harm the amplifier chips which are the most important thing.

Perfect! I shall buy and fit them!

Thank you very much!

Lots of previous threads on here regarding impedance and folks trying out various things so have a dig around if you need more info Alexis.

Thanks Ewen,

Do you know of any good UK sites for parts? I am after a Pinch roller. I found what I am looking for in the US (about $5) but the companies don't ship to the UK. I have also found a UK firm, but they are asking £11 for the part.

Any ideas/suggestions?

what radio is the pinch roller for ?

Its a Sharp VZ3500, not a Boombox I know, but it is a practice run for when I get a VZ2000.

Hey Alexis, if you want, I could purchase the pinch roller, have it shipped to me, and then ship to you. Just an idea. Wink
