Sorry for my stupidity!!!

Yes, "Sorry for my stupidity!"....

What do I mean? Well a few years back, when I got my GF 9292, and when I got it working after a good clean and the classical belt and roller change... I had a go with it and found that it did not sound the best!

I had pulled out the 9191 to put besides it and compared them.... I ended up with MY final conclusion that the 9191 sounded WAY better than the 9292!

And, like with all my Bnboxes, pulled out randomly the 9292 to use it.

A few years down the line, I move to Ireland and left most of my Bboxes in France (preparing myself to bring a few back with me at every visit, over a period of a few years).

This said, When I came back last month... I had a visit from Pascal (sharpie... he does not post here any more), and we listened to a few of my Bboxes, HE noticed that the 9292 was sounding lest better than his... and said, "You should check your sliders."

A month later I come back, I pull out the 9292, listen to it again... open it, unsolder and open the sliders... and..... all four brushes (2 for treble and 2 for bass) where broken/un-clipped!!!!!! Eek Eek Eek Eek

I felt so small not having caught this myself!!!!! And I am sorry for having been so novice-like posting that the 9292 was lesser in sound than the 9191! Roll Eyes Leaving

So, for a conclusion.... All those who agreed with me, at my first 9292 post... that "Their" 9292s sounded lesser than what they should have.... Well, have a look at the treble and bass sliders, and fix dem-der brushes.... For that sucker sounds as nice as the 9191!!!!!! Which is normal, for it is the same thing inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cool Big Grin Wink

All is forgiven. Smile

Now you have led by example, perhaps you should kick off a thread called 'boombox bloopers' as a confessional area for the S2G members to come and share their own blunders.

It could serve the dual purpose of providing a sense of release and repentance for those documenting their screw ups, and also of course, a giggle for the readers!

And I'd like to apologize for my stupidity in general Laugh Out Loud .If we were all honest about things,we're all a " work in progress".I see us as a family casually talking to one another here in the forum. The very nature of forums is the exchange of ideas be them correct or incorrect. It ranges from the very scientific to comments bordering on boombox mysticism Laugh Out Loud .You have far more knowledge than many of us about these things. That said,It's very possible for even someone without a lot of knowledge to give a veteran repair expert (like Kitt) a brilliant idea because we all see things differently.I really do value everyone's input here, even from those who are misguided.Often times you can monitor the another's education on things just by following their posts over a period of time. For all I know I could have written a bad review for a box in the past that had A LOT disconnected inside. This is because I rarely have the courage to open them.Eventually with enough volume of input in a forum (or time,as in your case),the truth reveals itself.

It's interesting that you find the 9191 and 9292 very similar if not exactly the same on the inside.Though I've not experienced a 9292,I'm quite impressed with the performance of my 9191.It's capable of achieving a high over all volume.Flipping the loudness switch on mine seems to have no effect.I'm thinking it is stuck to the "on" position so I'm not sure my observation about its sound would be correct.Bass is very tight with lots of cone movement. You can dial in some nice highs and the mids have a nice bright and forward presentation.Given the condition of mine,I'm quite sure a box of lesser build quality would have ended up totally destroyed! It has all metal switches and buttons unlike many of the glitzy all plastic boxes that get such high prices on Ebay.Of course those who know all of this keep the bid prices pretty high on Sharps from that era. That is why I only have one and it's a dog cosmetically.I hope to get more Sharps in the future.Based on my experience with the 9191,I can see why your so enamored with them!
