FS Date ~~ 11/16/07..M60/M80/M90 Wireless remote-JoiN! II

kittmaster - 2007-10-16 19:25

The production boards have arrived today and they did a great job on speed and online interaction. I even like the little care package they sent along......Smile

Of course there is a major issue. It was an miscalculated error on my part. I merged two files together as one file (the trans and rec). Well every other place would normally cut the boards as designed, however, since this is a prototype by their standards, they did everything right except cutting out the board outlines.....WTF. This process is known as "scoring" and is not included in prototype methods which drives the cost up. So I end up with this:

As you can see this is kind of useless since I now have conjoined boards........ Tap Toes

So had to put on my thinking cap and I found a way to use my routers to cut the boards in half by using a negative image place holder, locking in the board, and creating an isolation path from the board outlines to cut the exact ordinal location of the original cut lines.......and taddaaaaaaaa. We now have this:

I got the boards populated......sorry for the build up, but no I have no idea if it works yet.....taking an hour break to watch SVU and then I'll give it a whirl.

mrb - 2007-10-16 19:48

amazing, simply amazing... think of all the things you guys can do, its endless!

kittmaster - 2007-10-16 20:30

IT WORKS.....IT WORKS.....IT WORKS!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah baby, the boards are finalized and work PERFECTLY!!!! Every function in the right location, every action of the M90............100% complete ready to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can now send the remote BACK to capitol G for master mold creation!!!!!!!!

He has some adjustments to make based on the standoff points and leads from the component insertion but its DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE!!!!!

OH MAN I am so stoked right now.....what a journey!!!!

At this point these will be ready for sale in the next two weeks!

I'll have to get in touch with G to get this going.

I'll be posting a 2nd to final high resolution video to show the results in action.......yeah baby......whoo hooo

kittmaster - 2007-10-17 13:46

There are now two videos of the final product on the current state to a fully functional demonstration.

Can be viewed in windows media player or winamp........Thoughts and comments welcome

Right click on link and "save target as" to view from your local machine.......although it may stream....not really sure....LOL

FIRST VID = 20MB

transamguy1977 - 2007-10-17 16:40

Just watched the vids.
Very exciting ,looks like only little details left to iron out before these puppies go into production.
Lots of luck this looks like a great little remote.

ford93 - 2007-10-17 21:55

Very innovative watched the videos and it's quite interesting!

Congrats Kitt!

Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nod Yes Wink

kittmaster - 2007-11-06 14:17

Looks like the finish date will be somewhere around 11/16/07. I talked to Beau over the weekend and he has made some minor changes for overall stability and all my nit pick items for correction. I have all but two parts so they are ready to build, just have to wait until the two parts arrive late this week.

Hey folks,

Sorry for the long no updates aspect. With the holidays, we are all busy and getting ready....Smile

This is copied and pasted from a PM from Capitol G, even with a minor delay, this is great news....!

Pasted:

Molds working perfectly. Capturing all the detail. Especially the top clip that secures both halves. Brass screw stays look great sunk into the plastic. Battery cover needed to be remolded for screws to fit. Circuit board stays are firm and exacting. using oven to speed up catalyst of resin in mold. Seems to work great. More tomorrow.

kittmaster - 2007-11-28 09:44

BTW, we've added a engineering change where the battery door and the main body will use a clip and seal design with a machine #6 screw into brass plate. This will guaranteed very long life and also removes any what ifs when taking the battery door on and off.

It will be like those xmas toys where you have to have a small philips to remove the battery door. The screws are inset so the hand doesn't feel them, and the overall design just got stronger because of it. I've really been hounding Capitol G and has been really putting in the hustle......more to come....

kittmaster - 2007-12-05 09:33

Seems like we are still working out some fabrication bugs. Mostly this falls under the plastics area.

Its better to happen during the design stage as opposed to having someone buy one and happen then. Here is the status per Capitol G via PM

Pasted:

I spend the whole weekend working on this project and I had some good things happen and bad things happen. Concerning the buttons, I was able to recreate the rubber buttons in black with all the indicators but the piece was ruined by small bubbles every where. I’ll try again tonight. The hooking mechanisn that hold the unit together from the top shattered when I was shaping the unit. I think it had to do with cooking the piece. Trying to work through that. That battery cover was the only piece that did not give me any problem. It fits great. The metal plate in the front looks great. The circuit board is rock solid with the new holders. I am very worn out. Please know that each I’m trying really hard to get you a working copy.

capital.g - 2008-01-08 13:13

This is an update for the m90 remote. All of the pieces ended up being completely remolded because of changes and enhancements to every part of the remote. It was like starting over but it will be worth it. We really want a quality product. I was also able to figure out 3 major design hurdles. (01) How to add resin back to the piece that has already been cast without it flaking off, (02) How to keep the clamshell design closed and tight especially on top without using screws (03) How to come up with a descent looking button icons.

Above are pictures of the sunken threaded brass stays that allow one to remove the battery cover without taxing the resin.

Above are picture of the buttons. These were made by hand carving all the shapes out of an aluminum sheet 1.5 mm thick. They were then glued into the mold. The thickness of the pieces gives the sharp borders of the negative impression. This was no less than 20 hours of work.

Above is the remolded front that shows a negative impression to a plate or plaque. I do not have a picture of the plate but the brushed aluminum looks really cool against the flat black. This plate will have writing on it.

Above is a picture of the battery cover. It looks horrible know but wait till it’s done. What you see is J B welds Quick epoxy which allows me to add back to the pieces to make them fit perfectly.

Above is the clip, made out of aluminum, that holds the front of the unit together.

Above, once the clip is snuggly inserted in the 2 halves, it holds them together while providing a flush brushed aluminum design. This piece will not be removed unless there is a problem with the electronics.

Right now, I that is left is to finish shaping, sanding, and painting and then I’ll get it to Kitt for a movie.

capital.g - 2008-01-14 07:48

Below are pictures of the finished product...Some of the design features include brushed aluminum, baked-semi-black finish, recessed icons on buttons, screws holding battery cover.

This has been a long and exhausting road for me. I have worked on this unit with Kittmaster to try and make the highest quality hand made, hand carved remote and I think we have done it. I can not wait for Kitttmaster to make the video showing this unit controlling the M90.

WOW!

...a very enthusiastic and intensive work!

featured in chat area for a while!

masterblaster84 - 2008-01-14 08:09

I'll second that, WOW!!! Very impressive work.

kittmaster - 2008-01-14 08:16

This is exciting!!

Well I have 9 boards remaining ready to be assembled. As soon as I get the remote in hand I'll assemble it and create a high resolution video for everyone to see.

I know for some this project has seemed to have lost steam and maybe even interest, but now that it has come full circle, there are no show stoppers left.

I'm sure once the high res pictures are taken and the video presented, hopefully it will respark interest. I fully intend to satisfy all S2G members first with a specific price point for a given duration, after that duration I will then bring it to ePay and see what happens.

S2G members will ALWAYS get first preference. The remote will be warrantied as long as you own the product and I guess as long as I'm alive.

If you drop it in a toilet, run it over with a car, toss it off a building......well, I'll do my best to work with you. But if it fails for any other reason, then Beau and I will see what the best course of action for a full warranty based on the failure method and repair route......either way, satisfaction is the ONLY goal of this project.

Please spread the word, i'm sure there are some who haven't been here a while, so if you any personal dealings, an update to them would be very helpful!!!

All the best everyone!

Chris
