Just got my Marantz today
It is GREAT cosmetic shape, honestly it is one of the nicest boxes to ever grace my front door step.
It showed up with one channel working lackluster but relatively loud and the other one working but almost no volume. I took apart and deoxed the controls (all) and put back together, now one channel isn't working at all, and only low volume on the other. The speaker amps are good, because when I first got it I tried the low volume one and other side and it played loud.
Do you think this is a problem that can be fixed? I really want this box to work the way it should, it is incredibly sexy.
Dunno what tech to take it to, but I will invest some dollars into this.

Johnny,I would try cleaning the pushbutton power switch itself. You will need to remove it from the main chassis to get the spray in where it can work. But you have to remove the whole aluminum face of the main unit to get to the screws on the switch.
My Marantz CRS-8000 had a similar problem, cleaning the power switch worked.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this don't!
You can send the main unit to me and I'll do it for you.
I have a Marantz CRS-8000 and a PMS-7000 and worked on them several times.
Skippy it looks like the power transformer has been changed, it has wires spliced and soldered back together. It does the same thing with batteries though too.
I cleaned the power swith pretty good, but will try again. It that doesn't fix it, I may just send it to you.
Johnny
P.S. Do you own all those Marantz's in that pic.. amazing!
Ok Johnny, let me know if you need my help.
If the power switch is bad You can still get them.
I did own them all,but Ira conned me out of the PMS-3500 and the PMS-3040,LOL
I still have the PMS-3020 and the two big guys.
very beautiful box johnny --nothing is more elegant --it will become one of your all-time keepers.
is there equal power on both sides from the phone jack ?

Thanks Ira, No everything plays the same, from the line in to the tape deck one side has volume, while the otherside plays a lot lower (any ideas?). I think I will drop this off for repair. I want it working perfectly, its too nice not to! The person who owned it, must have loved it also, took very good care of it... Antenna is kinda junked up, but thats it.
Thanks for looking guys.

Skippy where can I buy the power switch from?
I pulled it out and deoxed it really good but still the same.. substantial volume on one side and really low on the other.
Johnny
Johnny Maybe it lies in balance control
Your balance actually is a volume control for each channel.
I had to clean one real good because of same problem
Excellent score!
Well worth investing in!!!
Good luck with the repair!

Well then I would check the balance and volume controls and make sure they are clean as bill suggested. The power switch can be found on Ebay.
Marantz power switch But if your switch was the problem like mine, usually a good cleaning will cure it.
Just to be sure it is not a speaker or something related,is the volume difference the same way with headphones on?
Skippy, I am going to try that, good thinking.
I'll pick up an adapter for my headphones and get back to ya.
Johnny
Sounds great man.
