I just bought a Panasonic RX-5085 which has a feature on the FM band called afc. My dad said it holds the stations so it's easier to tune; problem is I can't get hardly any stations! The range goes from 80 to 120, so I would expect to get stations 88.5 and 106.9 as I can get on my other boxes. I do not get these! Is there a trick to tuning with this? I can't find a button to turn it off. Help me, this box is amazing otherweise.

some are built like that having only the fm afc feature and fm mono and am ,did you ever fix that lloyds?

What kind of reception are you getting on fm generally? Are the two stations you mentioned the only ones you're unable to tune on the 5085? Some tuners are more sensitive than others, and able to receive distant stations that may be more difficult, or even impossible with less sensitive tuners. If the stations you mentioned, are distant, or are very weak, try tuning them with your radio set on fm-mono. Sometimes due to distance, or interference (common with weak signals), the tuner may not tune properly in stereo, but a decent, listenable signal can often be tuned in with the mono setting (less noise and/or interference). Have a look at your function selector switch: some are labled FM-Stereo/FM-Mono, or FM-AFC FM-Auto, etc. Also, take a look at the back of the radio, there may be a switch on the back, not plainly visible. If you could post some pics, that may be helpful, as I'm not familiar with this model.

Hey Stretch, I have a Panasonic RX-5085 that the tuner dial pointer does not line up with what station I am actually listening too. For example....I am "listening" to 102.5 FM, but the dial pointer is at "1" on the "103" script on the scale, but as I move further up the scale, the dial pointer gets even further from the actual stations and the pointer stops at 106 and I can't get any stations after 106 (there are actual stations up on this high end too), so not sure what the deal is.....otherwise a great radio which was my very first blaster I bought myself in late 1982.

i have had that happen on a few what i have done is adjust the tuning cap for that station then moved the dial until the end to see if i can hear the last station you really have to play alittle with it but i have ended up with the radio recieving all stations correctly and still might a bit off from the dial but not by much

Hey thanks for the quick replies guys. I did fix the Lloyds, it's just awaiting reassemble right now. The 5085 is my favourite radio, other than the fact that it won't tune in my favourite stations I have it taken apart as we speak trying to look inside. I will reassemble for some pics soon. What is a tuning cap ramon? How does one adjust it?

It only plays radio when the play button on the tape deck is pressed down. Is that supposed to happen?

On another note related to this thread; I can now only receive ONE channel on my 5085 when tuning! Could something be broken? I can turn the knob and watch the dial go down the face, but no change in channel

I hope you like my newest boxes and I'll post pics of the Lloyds when it's re-assembled.
