Hello Everyone,
There is an RCM70 for sale from China at
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Victor-JVC-RC-M70-boombox-Ghetto-Bla...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.
The back says it is 100V. Will this work in North America? I know we are 120V and I think it would because it's drawing less power. I would like it as it has the extra features such as tape speed on the panel under the tape counter. I think this model was only made in China.
Cheers, Paul
The Victor (what JVC is called in Japan) RC-M70 is a Japanese domestic model. Japan electricity is 100v. There have been lots of opinions on this board about whether you can run a 100v. box on 120v. The answer is, it depends... mostly on the box. Some transformers can run indefinitely at slightly-higher-than-required voltage (especially when actual U.S. voltage is usually less than 120), while others burn out (eventually). And so, if you run your Japan domestic box at 120, you're taking a slight chance it'll burn out one day. Then again, maybe it won't. To be safe, get a 120-100v. step-down transformer from the Internet or someone you know in Japan. In Japan, they're sold at nearly every electronics store. Better yet, use batteries.
Sorry guys, but find me one person that has had the problem of a transformer burning out for this reason..!!!!!
