Sharp GF 305 (The Jap verssion of the 9191/9292) Static
bredgeo - 2011-06-09 03:50
Hey Guys and Gals,
I do not no is any of you remember the bad chip I had in the GF 9595, well.... now it is the unfortunate turn of the GF 305.
I made a little vid so you can see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsFmUcOJvqc
So, my main question is, who ever has a schematic... Please have a look and tell me what chip I am looking for (for I guess it is a pre-amp chip for the cassette), so I can locate it and order a new one.
Thanks for your time!

First of all check the r/p head cable - touch the cable with wood or plastic stick, during playback mode, if you get more 'buzz', then you should check all of the head solder joints
bredgeo - 2011-06-10 04:17
WILL DO!!!!!!!!!!!!
metad - 2011-06-10 06:19
please note: check the cable itself with multimeter, not only solder joints.

Hi have you cleaned the Record/Replay switch, these can give these sort of symptons if the contacts are corroded or grubby
bredgeo - 2011-06-24 10:14
Hey guys,
Just to let you know..... I have not got to the 305 yet... Work and stuff (Shoot! I miss the time i was a teacher with a full month's pay with only 20 hours per week of work!!!!)
So, Next... Not this coming one, but the weekend after, I will have "Finally" a full weekend and get to dig into the baby!
Be letting you guys know!
bredgeo - 2011-07-10 05:31
Dude..... Metad!
Totally it!!!!!
Did not even need to test, for the solder points were cold (head had been changed), thus just cleaned all that and re-solder them, and....... VOILA!!!!!!!!
Thankssssss!!!!!!!!!!
metad - 2011-07-11 05:23
Totally it!!!!!
Told ya
I've seen before, exactly the same problem on a 9191, that strange static sound after you pushed "stop" button.
Good to know you fixed that
bredgeo - 2011-07-11 05:36
Yeah, First time I get that... Now I know!!!!
Have you ever got that type of noise on any other Bboxes? Or it has only been on a 9191... Could be a sickness of those models, but we could easily expect a 9494 or 9696.... to have that some time in their life time. Hummm.... any bbox with "Open-to-Air" solder point on the play/rec head(s)...
I wonder......
Lol!

No, I haven't.
But, once I saw a broken head cable on a 9292,
when tape mecanism in it's place, the cable comes too close to the screw post, and it was flattened and broken with two parts of the cabinet's screw posts. That was the reason, I told you to check cable itself , not only solder joints.
In any case, if you get static sound during tape playback mode, the head> cable> cable plugs have to be tested first

Mee Too Retro !! well Metad, i defo think you know more than you are telling us,because you talk of solder joints and multimetres ect..so you have to know more because most people dont know how to use a multimetre..
i had to use one yesterday on a hifi tuner,it was dead,i found one of the lead wires on the system control power lead open circuit,i fitted a new cable and it powered up,but the display was dim,i replaced a 1k resistor and that solved it..i'm still learning about resistor values ect..not very good yet,but i've been playing around with electronics for 25 years, but not fixing all things by skill, but fixing them by more of trial and error, and by having alot of luck too..
metad - 2011-07-11 12:24
LOL, you guys... why do you want me to be a technician or Sharp employee ?
I am not
and believe me I don't wanna spend my life in a repair shop, no way.
If I would be a technician I wouldn't find this site, cause in december of 2003 I decided to repair my old beloved GF-9292 and googled how to find spare parts, etc,
and found pocketcalculator show. This got me into this hobby. simple

radio.raheem - 2011-07-11 16:36
Or there is me simple and dim.. i have had this happen on a couple of boxes and hifi's I think it's pretty common as the head wires are under stress and sometimes get cought....happened to an auto reverse head once...now there is a real pain in the butt....ofcorse I couldnt see the bloody thing now so i don't even go there...
ghettoman - 2011-07-11 16:40
ha ha metad thats the one..

Hey, hey... Thanks for the helping hand offer!!! For sure!
It was not a chip after all (like in the 9595) just cold solder on the tape heads which was cold, all working now just fine, for now... .
I do have a 9191 which the tape is not working correctly... How much would you want for a board?
Let me know!
Later!
