Controlling multiple boomboxes with laptop

micpea - 2011-08-10 13:49

I want to set up a wall of boomboxes that have TV components and then control what is being played on the cassete and TV of each respective boombox via a computer or midi controller.

Would this require modifying on a per boombox basis? Not sure how to begin researching.

Thanks in advance for any tips or resources.

UPDATE:

I've been told that one way to control multiple boxes is by connecting an FM transmitter to one of the boxes then set the rest of the boxes to the same frequency.

Yes that would have been the advice i would have give you,If you do get an FMtransmitter, try and buy a good, more expensive one,i have a couple of cheap ones and they are not worth the plastic they'r made from, rubbish hissy crappy signal..

Thanks Beanie,

I think that's where I'll start, but down the road I'd like to learn how to wire them together, and eventually be able to control each radio independently, including controls for each box's tv and cassette.

To be honest, even with cheap crappy FM transmitters you can get a good audio signal. I bought a few 5GBP ones from eBay and have found that on their own they are pretty rubbish, but the trick is to re-modulate the audio before pumping it through to the said cheap FM transmitter. I use a PC installed with a free application call Stereo Tool and coupled with Winamp can transmit decent sound to hear on walkman.

The FM transmitter I bought allows you to select the frequency you want to use and even comes with a USB power cable and it gets the power it needs from the PC or from two AA batteries.
