Ahoy!

Just cracked open the Questar to see what the crack is with the tape deck and I cant seem to fix it.  It fast forwards and rewinds but doesnt play?!  All the belts seem fine and i cleaned up the wheels to stop slippage so what is going on?  Is play run off a different motor or something?

hey man,its here you should be looking at..that drives the play spool,aswell as rewind and fast forward..

its best you keep the deck out in your hand,press play and see what that wheel does with the smaller belt,then follow which cogs it drives,then trace it to the leading spool at the front of the deck,its got to be something simple because its only a standard deck..shame you could'nt make a video of it..

When you press play is all the mechanical parts moving where they should? Maybe a spring isn't connected or something. 

Try playing a tape holding the mech. in your hand to see if something is slipping.

Ive done all of the above and it seems fine as far as I can tell.  I lubed up the gears and it seems to be running smoother but still no proper play.  I have found out now though that If i push play down about half way it works (but spins too fast).  Once more pressure is applied to the play button and it clicks into place then it stops?!  

Iv noticed down at the bottom of the cassette deck that once something engages then it stops but its getting late and I cant explain very well so I will plow through tomorrow and if im still stuck will take pictures of what im on about!

I think something is just sticking somewhere and needs to be freed up.

yes i think its definately something or nothing,these decks are used in alot of various boxes,either the same or very simular..like in the crown sz5100,unisef sz5000,the super jumbo j1,lasonic trc931,trc975,also in the jc2000 and the discolite,all the big cheap black plastic ghetto blasters used those simple cheap decks,i've had loads and not alot goes wrong with them because there's not alot to em..i'm sure if you study it logically,you will work it out..

as we are on the subject of tape decks is there anyone who can help me with mine.

A SHARP VZ2500 whitch ff and rw but will not play it just clicks fast!

I'm sorry to but in and any help would be greatfull.
