VZ-2000 internal record switch?

scottym - 2011-11-21 05:37

Hey guys,

Probably such a noob question but does anyone know where this is?  Is it part of the tape deck?  I need to clean the switch...so any help is appreciated.

It's not the part of the deck, but you can find it behind the deck, on the main PCB.

It looks like a metal bar, about 7-8 cm long, and when you press the record button, the metal lever pushes this switch.

Oh !! That switch - YES !! See the faded Yellow tab with the square hole through it on the far Right - that is Normally the Recording Circuit Engagement Switch found inside Most any Boombox normally connected by a Lever or a hook an straight stiff rod connected to this end or some kind of configuration like that.

To clean this switch - when an if needed - up-end your box so this is up-n-down the switch and spray Your favorite Electrical contact Cleaner so it travels the length of the switch to the other end followed by a blast of Canned air repeat as many times as you think to do so... Followed by a brief squirt of - ( I use Deoxit Gold ) then imediately followed by another brief blast of canned air to blow out the excess and you should be working again!

Big thanks to the both of you.

How does one access it?  When you say behind the deck, does that mean remove the deck to get to it?

On some boxes this switch placed below the deck, I didn't see VZ-2000 inside, but in any case you need to remove the deck, don't be afraid - it's easy, you could take pictures of the process step by step, it will help you to get the bits back to the right place.

Haha well i've already taken it apart to this point.  So i'll check it out after i'm done with this thing called "work" that interrupts the time i spend with my boomboxes.

Thanks again.

no problem and good luck

Well i got to the switch (had to unbolt and turn over the main pcb/tuner assembly) and well she was dirty even looking at the outside.  So i threw a tape in and pressed rec/play and i see that the metal hook coming from the tape deck does not move at all so it doesn't activate the switch?  This ain't right is it?

So i had to clean the switch by manually moving it back and forward while apply contact cleaner.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Scott

Is the record tab broke out of the casette tape you were playing and trying to record with - Therefore not allowing the mech to move the switch cause You possibly cannot record on the cassette you have in there

Do yuou have a new unrecorded blank cassette to attempt this all with ? a tape that has the record tab's NOT Broken out of the back of the tape?

If so then this tape , inserted into your recorder should allow the deck to move the whatever to actuate the switch to put the circuirtry into record mode...when you depress the record button on your deck with the blank cassette in it...

James,

The tape i used was originally a blank one but had been used to make a recording.

I didn't check the tab on it either but will when i get home.  Hopefully it's the tape.  I'll report back later when i'm home again.

Thanks again,

Scott

Tab was still in tact...so i'm not sure.

I then re-assembled the whole machine and she still don't play so maybe the amp chip?

Time to take it to the Repair-Technician...

this beyound me now - or contact ( Stormin Normin ) - on here  - resident tech!

Or Record your tapes with a different deck - I always use the Teac V-2RX Home deck for my recordings

Well i played around with it a little more today.

Guess what, it records onto tapes.  I know because i listened through headphones as i was getting slight audio at max volume.  And AM radio picks up...i can hear very faintly when turned right up...FM couldn't get a station but i can hear the static tone change when going between the different bands.  And i've got a record to spin up.
