Boombox just broke - Strange!

Hey all,
I'm new here, so thanks in advance for the help.
My roommate was using my old (but awesome) boombox and the thing just crapped out. I haven't had any problems with the radio before, but now it won't increase in volume. Everything still turns on and the radio still plays, but even when its at max volume it's nothing more than a whisper.
Any advice on how to fix this / if its a fatal flaw would be greatly appreciated. The box is great, very sad to see it crash.
Thanks!

However the common problem given these symptoms is oxidization of the volume pot OR the radio selection switches. Try using Deoxit on both, operate them several times and give it some time to dry out. Then see if the problem persists.

to go like that i would sugest a blown cap somewhere...but as my friend brutus sugests a good clean with detoxit may solve the issue....try this first and then the latter....good luck

I hear you beanie. It's hard to diagnose an issue without knowing details. Things like "does it have a tape deck?" If so does it only do it with the radio but work fine with a tape? These are questions that could really help narrow the problem down to a tuner, selector switch, speaker, connection or faulty component.
