I somehow, managed to have a look at my bombeat 40`s deck today. It FF/RW`s, but no play. I found that, in play mode, capstan turns, take-up reel doesn`t, pinch roller, comes to within 2mm of the capstan. This one has me stumped, and, it`s the most basic deck.

Is the pause mech moving freely and properly ?

Yes docs. I`m sure, some cogs aren`t engaging somewhere. I have never seen this before.

I don`t worry about it lad. If it works, good. If not, so what.

Can you release the deck a bit into a position to see inside when you press play. You might be able to see if any cog is not turning or is not moving into position. Look at it from the reel point of view and see which cog should be engaging it and move backwards to the motor.

Doc`s. Believe me, it was a trial, just to do what i have done today. RR. I might have had brain surgery, but, i still won`t use wd40 .

fair enough lad....specially on the bombeat.....i suggest you put it together and send it to somebody like beanieman or docs.....before you loose parts.....could be a missing spring anything lad.....wd40 fixed my kaboom lad....the deck was all jammed up from none use

rich is the spring on the pinch roller ok ?   is there enough tension on it .

It`s odd, the take-up reel not moving. I don`t know, how these decks work, and, it`s so simple.

They haven`t got a flat belt. It`s a puny square one. Look`s like, somebody has put a new one on.

Nah. I can`t see it working chris. I`ll tell you, this one has got me stumped.

One thing i could do, was, change all the chassis screws, which were short, bright coloured one`s. I put some black one`s in.

well its a great day for both of us lad....it seem's i have blown one of the speakers on my crown 970....as its rattling to fook....god knows where i will get another....as i think the 970 is as rare as the bombeat if not rarer.....i could try some 850 cones but i don't realy want to piss abooot lad
