M90 question.

litfan - 2012-12-02 08:58

What`s the best way, to clean the pinch roller? I thought, you could take the door front off, and, clean it then, but, i remember, the tape has to be in. I hold the nylon piece down, with a pen top, then, press play, but, it`s too fiddly. There must be an easier way?

I use the wooden cotton tips ( Q-tips ).  The Wooden One's are about Six inches or about 12 cm,  I get a few when I go to the doctor...

litfan - 2012-12-02 09:16

Yeah, but, how do you engage the tape?

I do Not engage the tape to allow the capstan to turn/rotate the pinch-roller.

When cleaning the pinch-roller;  I use 1 or 2 methods or sometime's both together;

1. Using a diagonal stroke accross the roller, wiping with de-natured alcohol.

2. Applying the Other end of the wooden  cotton tip stick wooden end, to hold the  'roller' in place while again rubbing the rubber untill the tip become's clean.

Dont like to Engage the deck into motion, then inserting a exrta Long Q-tip into there as it like's to get eaten - then there is more foreign material to remove - Learned this Lesson a very Long time ago.

I`m different traveler. I like to engage the tape, and, give the roller/capstan a good clean. Tpr950, 990, are good, as, you just remove the door.

I dont have steady hands therefore I have to take more precautions.

Also I dearly wish i could solder the finer things that need soldering - alas I shake too much....

You wanna see my hands traveler. I`d be a master, on the maracas.

I have an old cassette shell where I've cut away alot of the bottom part. There's enough cassette shell left to fool most mechanisms, but plenty of room to access the pinch roller, capstain & heads.

...so long as you can get the door off, of course

When you get the door off from the front of your m90 - you wont need to worry about cleaning it anymore

radio.raheem - 2012-12-02 22:59

Richard,,,,just remove the outer door like i told you....failing that there are little micro switche at the top of the deck....press them in pres play and clean whateaver you need that way

blaster - 2012-12-03 05:39

Lit...i guess for the m90 you would need a cassette driven cleaning type system like the ones they use to make from discwasher back in the day...ive also used and liked the ones from allsop they do clean well

heres a couple like allsop but from maxell and zenith....links below

Thanks blaster, but, i`ve used countless numbers of those, and, found them to be not much good. Traveler, the front of the m90 door does come off. Just put thumb pressure, on the see-through part, then, move down.

nak.d - 2012-12-03 12:19

Have you tried the Ixos type? They look fairly good...

Cassette Deck Cleaner

litfan - 2012-12-03 12:24

Thanks Nak, but, may not suit some logic decks. Can someone clear something up. Why do people order, when it say`s 10 left, 44 sold? I see this often.

nak.d - 2012-12-03 12:29

Anytime Lit. Regards the eBay thing are you asking how the numbers could affect a purchase?

stereo.mad - 2012-12-03 12:46

Lit I would just open it up, the whole lot comes out on a subframe and then you can clean everything so easily, and while you got that lot out of the way you can access the speakers for cleaning and making those tweeters nice and black again
It seems a lot of work but its not its so easy
Just a suggestion mate, it's what I would do anyway ;0)

litfan - 2012-12-03 14:14

Thanks SM. Bit too much work for me to carry out now . I see now, why, it works with a tape in, but, not without. The micro switch. Good old RR. Yeah, how can they have sold 44, when, there`s only 10 available?

retrodos - 2012-12-03 14:25

You need to push on the switch toward the top to engage the logic, you feel them, use "blow off rubber rejuvenator", to clean the pinch roller, best stuff, get roller like new.

This means they have more than 10 left in stock and available to buy, and so far, they've sold 44 units
