stereo.mad - 2013-01-08 13:38
i got a second m90 last year and the drivers was a little tied so i changed them with some black modern speakers which sounded the dogs but never looked right, well now iv changed them for yet again modern speakers but i have painted them blue and changed the dust caps for some chrome ones and they sound awsome!
here's some before and after pics

I was wondering if changing speakers or rather "upgrading" boombox speakers would devalue the radio?? I'm doing a full restoration on a Fisher PH-492 and the speakers work but they look kinda raggedy and so I was thinking of upgrading these speakers. Where can I find those blue speakers you have??
redbenjoe - 2013-01-08 19:51
unless you need some $$ for a qwik resale --
dont be concerned about the value -
just enjoy your upgrade -
and save the original speakers for some future sale

the chrome dust caps on this pic look massive lol. NICE!!

That looks excellent.
I, like many, always thought the original silver dust caps on the M90 woofers to look too small. I know bigger dustcaps don't change the sound, but the caps on your replacement woofers just look proportionally right.
Which speakers did the chrome caps come from?
Also, which woofers did you use?

you always put so much effort into your repairs and mods lee,and it shows, exellent work, and i wish some of your skills and prowess would rub off on me sometimes lolthe woofers on my pc5 were totally shot so i replaced them rather than going down the refoam route, with a pair i took from a 1997 jvc kaboom style massive turd shaped thing that was shot apart from the speakers, and they were a dead fit,and they too sound brilliant, they seem to have an even deeper bass response than i remember my first pc5 having on its original speakers!but they are jvc ones rather than an alternate supplier....on a sad note i miss my m90....badly

Great work Stereo. Cant really tell the differenve between the two of them.
I dont know in terms of sound but the blue woofers look nice!

the speakers are out of a pair of awia hifi speakers and i removed the black caps and put on the chrome ones i robbed off a pair of gf777 bass speakers i had laying around, then i painted them blue with craft paint i mixed to get the right shade of blue....a pic of the speaker in progress

sounds like a good job andy,im a big fan of speaker upgrades as the box always sounds at least 50% better or more!......
and thanks for the big up bro
isolator42 - 2013-01-09 23:27
Thx for the info. I wondered if the woofers were brand new or from a donor...
Dust caps from a GF777? Don't suppose you have any other 777 parts lying around do you? Like a back case...
