I recently inherited a bunch of Telefunken equipment from my great uncle, who died in his late 80s, and the stuff has been sitting in a closet for over 6 years.  Thankfully it is all immaculate, and even comes with original manuals.

One of the items is this sweet Telefunken Studio 1M, which seems to be in perfect order except for no backlight on the VU meters, nor on the radio meter.

Does anyone know if these can be easily replaced, or is it not worth the bother?  I must say I'm impressed with sound and thinking it might be worth the effort to repair it.

nice sounding box the m1 , replace the bulbs they look cool i have just done one belts etc .

Replacing the bulbs is not too difficult.

I've replaced the bulbs on my Studio 1 and Studio 1M.

You need to take the front aluminum front panel off.

To do this you need to remove all the knobs using a small metric allen wrench.

Then unscrew the two under the Bass and Volume knobs. 

Then remove the six phillips screws around the outside of the case that hold the front panel on.

Then carefully pull the front straight out,be careful because the two cassette deck VU's are attached to the front panel.

There are 3 bulbs on the Studio 1M and 4 Bulbs on the Studio1.

The bulbs are rated at 15 volts.

They are hardwired to the unit,so all you need to do is cut the old pigtail a solder the new bulbs on.

The lighted VU's look so nice!

You should fix yours for sure.

Now would seem like a very good time to thank Deliverance (Chris) for fixing my Funky Studio. I know it was not all fun and games with the tape mechanism repair; it was in a right state when I got it, but it now sounds and looks superb. Cheers that man!

Well Skippy, your instructions were as good as gold...I just wish I had read them carefully the first time, as I missed the bit about the nuts over the bass and volume, and couldn't figure why the face wouldn't come off. 

In the end taking the face plate off allowed me to do a thorough cleaning (that I couldn't do from the back), fix the spring on the cassette door and the counter, so grateful for the instruction.
