Sharp VZ-2000 turntable skips on every record

Hello all you VZ2000 owners out there (and I know there's quite a few of you). My issue is simple on the surface: on every record I play on my VZ, the turntable's stylus/tonearm/etc skips. Both sides, both tonearms. It starts off playing a record just fine, but usually happens a minute or so into the song. I had a suggestion to change the smaller belt that controls the linear movement of the tonearms, but after observing that mechanism at work, that smaller belt is just connected to the motor that moves the tonearms into place. Once the tonearms drop onto the record, that belt & mechanism have done their job, and stop moving. My problem comes into play after that. The tonearm is on the record, plays ok at first, and then gets stuck & skips on a random part of the record.

I've installed a new stylus on each tonearm, I've checked both belts (neither is cracked or worn), given the guts a thorough cleaning & dust-spraying, and I've tried all types of records - 45s & 33s, clean records, new records, scratched records, small hole, big hole... they all skip.

Is there a way to adjust the tonearm counterbalance or the tracking on the VZ2000? Maybe this is where my problem lies?

I have a 2000 and I'd love to answer your question TP as it must be extremely frustrating for it to do that but I didn't come across that with mine so I'm no help...sorry
