I Own and fix quite a few of those TDK 2/3 they are known to have PSU issues and USB port fails offen, plus poorly written frimware. Then the fact that you don't have No Rechargeable Batteries No SD Card Slot No Bluetooth for it price point. When with a Pioneer/audiovox sxabb2 speaker dock due to have a Sirus/XM satellite tuner to dock and has line input, No radio but don't really listen to AM/FM, as no good stations around here. Does sound decent and gets the job done, use it almost daily, plus can use C batteries.

Altec Lansing, JVC, Bose make some decent docks. Like anything most stuff is a hit or miss, rush out the door instead of testing.

So this begs the question Retrodos.....how do i fix this pos.....i can't afford to send it to you as i don't have any money at the moment...and it would cost more than the boombox is worth to send it to you.....can i buy a bios chip for exsample....what can i do...is there a reset switch inside the boombox

With USB stick in hold down the OK button while powering it up, even if you can't get into diagnostic mode, will take a few minutes. After finish make sure volume control to the OFF position then pull power and USB stick. Then plug back in and display sure come back on. USB stick does have to be formatted in FAT32, or won't get frimware off stick. These have a failsafe, so they won't be bricked.

so this should work even if everything is blank and it looks dead......i have the correct usb stick now and fat32

radio.raheem - 2013-03-20 18:21

can you give me the correct file retrodos......the file i have of tdk maybe currupt,,,,,,,nothing happens

radio.raheem - 2013-03-20 21:33

and how big is the file meant to be and do i need to convert it....the usb stick flashes for 3 seconds and stops...thats it

Label volume label of flash drive "TDKFLASH" and that nothing else is on that flash drive but the file below. Try a brand name flash drive that 8gb or lower, never use a 32gb, or bigger they almost always have issues.

Here the frimware

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 08:43

This is exactly what i have done over and over......nothing happens for the last few days...i have a 6 gb branded drive followed everything to the letter...nothing happens

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 09:14

Agent O, Retro if you would like to move this thread to the correct section my friends be my guest......im thinking of sending this back to the seller as it wasn't supplied with all the leads as stated.....and the usb has never worked.....i have been screwed over and over by sellers on ebay.....so it's about time i lied for a change.....honesty....i have met very few people who are honest.....

Thank you for EVERYBODYS time and effort...thank you all very much appreciated.....now i just feel like curling up in the corner and dying....thanks all

Would i buy another TDK....not in a million years

You don't have to lie. USB you said never work, I am asumming with MP3's to, good reason flash failed. The common issue with USB port is audio distortion, which bug was resolved with newer frimware revision. If the port didn't work at all that a different problem alltogetheir, more likely a hardware issue and wasn't supplied with all the leads as stated.

The newer ones they fixed the USB issues, which was audio related and other issues, if you really want one, make sure it newer revision. Olders one did have some issue that needed to be worked out and volume control was crap.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 10:16

Im assuming it's the usb port retrodos...as it wouldn't play anything before flash... is there a fix i can do could you send the parts???? or does it involve soldering etc

It sounds like a bad port. You said flash drive blinks, which means it getting power, but no data? You would have to sent that board, is separate and the mainboard. I would try to return it first before doing anything! Worst case can just reflash the board do have a couple of those that are sitting waiting for repair that can be used to test board. Also do have one brandnew in the box for $299, or used for $229, been reflash to newer frimware but shipping may not be worth it, have to check what discount I can get for shipping first to UK.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 10:36

I can reflash that's easy... couldn't you send just the usb board.....if i have to send 2 boards that's way to complicated.....

before the flash when i inserted the usb it came up with incorrect hardware for a split second then went blank.....if it's just a case of inserting a usb board (without soldering) i think i could manage that my friend

retrodos - 2013-03-21 10:48

I may be able sent that board out.  Let me see if can even fix the other two first and is even worth repair, if not then will sent the part out then and won't care if I get the USB board back as may not need it, I know later tommarrow once I test to see what wrong with them, as I have a couple that may not be worth repair.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 10:59

you want a dead one back sorted haha you sure this doesn't involve soldering buddy.....if so im up for that my friend....blind or not lol we may be getting somewhere

thing is when i bought her she did power up.....i just feel really shady sending a dead boombox back and blaming it on the postman

retrodos - 2013-03-21 11:07

I can understand that, wasn't completely the seller fault, as it did power on before, but you did said the USB port never worked, no need to lie about it, seem like it was defective as that message "incorrect hardware" sure have never came up? Try to clean the USB port and check for corrosion. I would call and register the box with TDK and see if it still under the 1 year warranty. They may just fix it, or replace it free.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 11:21

the seller didn't give me a receipt son.....do you think changing the usb board will work.....as you have fixed these...or do you think a main chip on the main board could be blown........if this works well it will beyond words....did you get my m90 switches

you didn't mention anything lad

are there any chips on the board you may be sending....hopso as i dont think it's just a broken socket....tried cleaning the socket with switch cleaner no differance

mods thanks for moving this it turned out in the wrong place

retrodos - 2013-03-21 11:27

I couldn't really tell you unless I see it, this is not a common issue I seen with these, so not sure, but doesn't sound like broken jack, sounds more like a controller IC issue, could be frimware issue, but nothing I seen yet.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 11:31

is the ic on the new board...i don't think its the jack lad

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 11:41

actually it could be the board or the jack...who knows

retrodos - 2013-03-21 11:48

Could be etheir, but IC on the main controller, plus one of the worst to take apart. You have to remove handle, remove strap bracket the speaker trim ring, remove plastic trim, pull the volume knob away from the face and wiggle the circuit board from the knob, pull the selector knob away from the face while wiggling it - there are little clips that release. Then remove speakers and hidden screws. Then heat the double sided sticky tape that holds the plexi on and pry the plexi away from the front case remove the remainder of phillips screws on the front case (1 is extra long top center, a few short ones on the bottom, and the rest around the perimeter are all the same length). disconnect the ribbon cable,  pull up the rubber just away from the front side of the case. Then remove the rest of the cables. This is not a easy one to service, if you have to go inside.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 11:54

in that case i think im screwed....because im guessing its the ic controller.....something else to note....my friend plugged his tablet in and his phone....it tried charging them..before the flash

retrodos - 2013-03-21 12:00

He may have overloaded it, to much current draw, but that may not be the seller fault then in that case. Did you try the USB port before he plug in his tablet and phone, with a good known USB flashdrive 32gb or under with MP3 files, or Ipod with 30 pin cable, or after the fact?

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 12:14

tried a usb stick first 100 percent...not sure what to do now....send it back to the seller and blame it on the post man...or just throw it out and bite the bullet as always,,,,,after this i feel like shutting my ebay account down....because 9 out of 10 sellers are dishonest.....i will show you the seller now bro.....i really appreciate your time morice

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2512...id=p3984.m1497.l2649

something else the seller supplied all the manuals apart from English.....it was like he was trying to hide something

retrodos - 2013-03-21 12:27

If USB never worked before, then it never worked and also the fact you flash drive blinks for 3 seconds meaning it getting power, so may have not been overloaded, otherwise you won't be getting power to the USB port when I think about it, but does sound like the controller is bad as no data is being receive correctly. Don't lie and blame the postman etheir, just say it the way it is. The USB port and the message that came up and don't work and you try everything.

No need to shut you account down, just becareful what you buy, if price is to good, then normally it is for a reason, "but you paid over the price of a new one for it" and never buy anything use with no pictures. You paid more then full price for it. I have brandnew ones for lower then that price $299.99 as they drop since then and will work on 240v 50hz. Get your money back and buy mines, even with shipping more likely be around the same if only a few bucks more.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 13:12

Retrodos can you find out how much it is to send a second had one from us and give me a total price my friend..... im sending this back now but im not sure what to say to the seller

retrodos - 2013-03-21 15:11

I get back to you with total on a second hand one, once I figure shipping cost, assuming same address as before, will sent to PM later.

Don't lie, as far as other seller, nothing wrong with the truth, if USB was broken and never worked, if he understand, then maybe he didn't know, as he may have just power it on and did a quick test and maybe will be easy to deal with. Had it happen before myseft and have overlooked something, or it gets damage in post. If he if he gets angry off the bat, instead of trying to come up with a solution, then you know he try to get one over and you will still more likely get your money back. Also don't leave negative intill you find out how he reacts and if he come up with a solution.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-21 21:29

cheerz morice......i think im gunna try and sell the broken 1 on here....but i doubt anyone will buy it after this....yea same adress....if it's doable i'll pay you on thursday

thing is iv grown tired of cassette.......and the tdk does sound nice  i think i have just had a bad egg....if the treble was as good as an m90 this would be the best one piece i have heard

stanzar - 2013-03-22 14:39

Have you tried this?

The instructions given on this link are not the same as those given on the tdk website.

Thanks for trying...doesn't work.....the problem i have is the usb port seems dead...its not reading from the drive....if there were a way to go back to default firmware with out installing from the drive it could possibly be restored

blaster - 2013-03-22 16:17

Hi, raheem, i contacted TDK about this and explained to them your situation and they sent me per email instructions to fix it....i hope this helps....

TDK Speaker Bricked

• Power off, remove power, and remove any USB media.
• Connect power; hold the OK button, power on. The Boombox may appear dead, but it's not.
• Keep holding the OK button for 15 seconds. Release. Press OK. Wait one second. Press OK again.
• Wait another 15 seconds.
• Power off.
• Insert USB media with firmware.
• Power on.
• Firmware will now install.
• If this did not work initially, please make an important change: use a different thumb drive.
• Download firmware.
• Insert thumb drive, quick format as FAT32 with a Windows based computer, with default allocation units, naming the drive TDKFLASH. Remember, nothing else but the firmware needs to be in the flash drive.
• Copy firmware to empty thumb drive and eject.
• With the new format from Windows, this should work.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-22 16:50

hi blaster that is VERY kind of you...the problem i seem to have...is that my usb is also dead....it never worked...if i had known this i wouldn't have attempted the update...i only tried the update because i thought it would fix the usb

stanzar - 2013-03-22 16:56

Did you actually try the instructions that both I and Blaster have posted? Its not the same instructions as those on the TDK website!

It may also be a good idea to try a different USB-stick, as stated in the link i posted.

radio.raheem - 2013-03-22 18:23

Tried everything with 3 different usb drives and nothing guys

blaster - 2013-03-22 19:34

maybe it isn't dead.....i know the TDK rep said if you don't do the upgrade right it becomes a brick....don't give up hope though....maybe leave it alone a for few days see what happens...im a try and ask again....

in short when i tried the up grade i think basically it's delited it's own firmware and couldn't install the new because of dead usb

First; you have to have a link of your video that you have uploaded to somewhere from.  Then it is a simply matter of sending the link of your video to whom ever you need to to send the visual aid to.

Second; Getting the video link; Make a video with your camera, save the file somewhere - in your computer.

Go to Tinypic or Photobucket or Dailymotion or Youtube DOT-COM or any other video place to upload your video to.

Make a account with them  upload your video, ( make certain you select the "Private" so Nobody but you and the receiver can view the video ) get the link, send ( Your Link to Your video ) to whomever you need to and

Thank you sir.....managed to work it out took a few hours lol....the hardest part was working out how to send the e mail itself....once i worked that out, it was just a simple drag and drop....why do things have to be so complicated today...why ohh why i ask myself

radio.raheem - 2013-04-05 11:21

Ok for any body following this thread.....boombox Now Fixed

How did i do it......first off i bricked my second TDK (not deliberate) rather stupid of me

death was looming at my door at this point....tried over and over the second TDK was dead......

Long story short i dug out another computer....and tried again....First i tried my new TDK holding my breath for the last time expecting jack shit....i went through the process re downloading firmware etc.....stuck it on my flashdrive.....hit the upgrade as stated in this thread....10 seconds later on came the screen stating upgrade complete..turn off power..(my heart was pounding at this point) turned off power pulled the plug and then reboot....everything flipping normal fixed...i couldn't belive it because before this point i was sitting with £600 worth of dead boomboxes....onto the first tdk expecting nothing i repeated the process.....now i have 2 working TDK.....I can't believe it after trying for days and nothing.....there BOTH working perfectly... so as expected im over the bloody moon

Figure it had something to do with flash drive, or computer when you told me second new one failed after flash. Glad to see that nothing was wrong with first one etheir after all. Sure sound better thur USB now with newer frimware.
