My sharp gf-777z is weak

jason.hall - 2013-03-31 01:05

So after receiving and testing my newest boomer , I noticed the left inside sub had a dented cone. All the subs are original probably 1982-83 I'm guessing. The output of this particular box is 65 Watts, right?well I had it right next to my lasonic trc-920 which is a substantially smaller box, but was out playing the 777z. So Im sure that sub is blown or something has shaken loose. When volume was turn to halfway point the sound got distorted. Far from the full sound I was expecting from this Boomer. So who can help me out? I'm thinking maybe a amp or capacitor is bad. I'm in need of a good tech in Arizona as I do not want to attempt to fix myself.

Ask the 777: Do you even lift?

Seriously though: The real power output of the GF777 is 4 x 8 watts: 32 watts total. It's indeed not a super strong boombox. But do check the inners for weird things, and consider replacing the speakers.

you could perhaps give it a tune-up...get some deoxIT spray to lube up the pots of the switches. and knobs...it wouldn't hurt to do so....

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm going to have a radio tech take a look at it and his advice as well.
If I do decide to change out all the subs in this boomer any recommendations on replacement speakers???

i dont think you need to replace speakers, the 777 is a bit muddy but should be loud enough to kill the lasonic 920,  i am not a tech but i have some radios and i can assure you it needs to be checked by a tech, caps or something else  could be bad even the power amp could be going south,

good luck and keep us posted.

Thx driptip that's what I was thinking too. Hoping it doesn't set me back too much. I dropped $550 on this box, but all is intact just the power/ speaker issue
