Tape Deck Help

Hi guys,
I've just changed the belts on my Deccasound DCS1122 and joy of joys, the left hand tape deck now works perfectly!
However, the right one still doesn't work. When I went to put a tape in it, I noticed the head was raised as if it was in the play position so I couldn't get the tape in and when I pressed 'stop' it didn't move.
I did notice this had fallen out of somewhere when I went to put everything back together. Any idea what it is and could this cause the head to raise up?
The other thing I was thinking was perhaps the motor is burnt out as it makes no sound, no matter what button I press and if the deck was stuck in the 'play' position, surely it would constantly spin the motor?
Thanks in advance,
Giles

That part (pic above: needle in a haystack) No Idea!
Did you take picture's of your steps of replacing Your belts?
Did you play the deck just after replacing the belts 'before' putting it back together?
After installing the belt - did you rotate the belt ( by hand ' your finger pushing the flywheel') through 1 complete cycle to ensure smooth operation before putting this back together?

I didn't take any pictures of the steps of replacing the belts as I'd just done the left hand deck which worked perfectly. I only tried playing a tape once I had put it back together. I'll take it apart again and try rotating the flywheel to see if everything is moving as it should.
