Yesterday I switched on my 5350 and it was lacking power then went dead,
If I press play on the deck then everything works as it should on all modes
Iv got it stripped down and the cassette deck out but can't see anything obvious
Any ideas???

Seriously though, it sounds like the switch between radio and tape is not making proper contact. Prob only needs a clean.

the main power contact is a weak little leaf type switch -

they go bad often

If everything works with deck operating normally it could be related to the power button because a lot of boxes have decks which work without the power button switched to on. Its a feature for standby mode to listen to tapes and the power goes off when you've fallen asleep.
Check out the button thoroughly.

It's not got a power on/off button
It has a 3 mode switch witch is...
Line in
Radio
Power/off/tape
But that still functions when play key is pressed on the deck

Is there a microswitch in the power connector ?

How about on batteries ?

I'm running it off the 15v dc and its still the same
Not sure about a micro switch, I'm diving in to have another look now

That function switch for powering on could have a problem. Might need to scour for a service manual to be able to do proper checks. Sounds like RBJ has had issues with it in the past or knows about it.
