TDK A73 2 speaker Boombox

digger65 - 2013-06-06 13:24

hi
1st post here many thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give me..

i have just bough this as for parts and seems like the volume knob is broken as if someone turned it past its on/off limit so there is no click or power at all
seems like i need to get it apart to replace this part just wondering if anyone has tried this
is it a serviceable part?
is it easy to even get apart as it seems quite molded together
anyhow if anyone can shed light
cheers
JJ

digger65 - 2013-06-06 13:42

yeah thanks

Lol, Del you crack me up

Hi JJ, welcome to the forum, you'll find a lot more love for older boomers here. The last thread here on repairing TDK boxes did suggest they were a little tricky to fix

agree with dell i have a tdk 3 speaker boombox...sounds superb n all but if it brakes it will be thrown out...these boxes were crapply built and not designed to be worked on

thanks chaps

i have got to the bottom of my issue

i require a "ROHS compliant b503 potentiometer"

was a bit of a phaff to get it apart but if you keep digging..

seems like these units had dodgy volume pots from the offset

can't comment on the sound quality...yet but i have had it going briefly

as for whether it is regarded as a "legit" piece of kit i don't really care, i got it cheap and if i fix it i will get a high and sense of achievement (and it was dirt cheap)

Oh yeh, the sense of achievement with getting a broken box for little money then fixing it yourself is huge regardless of the box! Hope you get it sorted

My daughters got one of these, unfortunately being only 6, she thought it would be great fun to poke the gold centres of the passive radiators in with her finger...

Ones just pushed in, but the others got a couple of small tears in it.  Any idea on where to get parts from?

digger65 - 2013-06-19 10:10

well TDK Europe wouldn't help me with a part so i am sure they wont help you also

but as its the only place to start...

let me know if you need a run down on getting it apart as its quite simple

I Just Pulled one a Part. You Have to Pry away the face plate from the top and you will see all the screws. I took the speakers out first. stick you fingers in around the woofer an the round plate pops out and you can see speakers screws.

Hi, is that the 3 Speaker you took apart? Could you please tell me how to get the faceplate off as it appears glued on to the casing ?

Thanks
